“completley rubbish stay away”

Went up on work business to wick. Hotel look the part on the internet but how wrong can i be.
checked in had to wait for service. got the key to my room and the first thing i saw was it had no curtains. the window overlooked a pelican crossing. The TV could only pick up channel 4 and there was a sink that had no hot water.
The dinner was nice only highlight of the trip and the pints were good too. went for a walk round the town of keiss it was OK but i wouldn't go out of my way to stay there. The toilets and shower wasn't in the room so it was a mare when you sleep naked and need to use the toilet or shower when you had to share with other guests. The rooms ad hall way on the 2nd floor smelt like fish that went off. The beds were uncomfortable. if you like a holiday up there or a trip to John O'Gortes Stay in wick or thurso.

Thankyou for your comment although I am not quite sure where you stayed because all of our rooms have curtains, and I cannot do anything about the pelican crossing, the water does take a long time to come through (apologies ) however I have changed the mattresses and the rooms now have digi boxes so thankyou for the feedback on that, we do have en-suite rooms but are a little bit more expensive than the ones that share a bathroom both can be booked on line I have asked the booking company to make it as clear as possible what people are booking so no mares for anyone else hopefully. thankyou for helping us to improve.

“A great little find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2009

The staff were great as were all the locals we met.
The children were treated like the little people they are.
The rooms actually had proper mugs in not those silly little teacups.
The family room was the best we have stayed in. A seperate room for the boys but still behind our door.
Darts pool and lots of board games kept us all happy.
Clean if a little dated but we like that!
Breakfast was great you just choose exactly what you would like from the hot food listed. Tea coffee toast/bread juice and cereal all there for you to help yourself
The owner left the bread etc out for us on the morning we left very early so we could just make our toast ourselves. One of many little things they did that make a big difference

“Great little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2008

As we had not been to Keiss, nor to Caithness before, we didn't know what to expect. As soon as we went into the hotel we were made very welcome and shown to our room, which was spacious to say the least. Windows on two sides, one to the east and one to the south. On-suite shower room with a shower that even I could fit into comfortably.

Breakfast was excellent and well cooked, a full Scottish breakfast and not like some of the places that I've stayed in recently. We took our evening meals in the Lounge bar and the choice was very good.

Will we be going again? Yes. There isn't a great deal to do in the area, great for walking, but if you want peace and quiet, i can recommend Keiss.

“Good Price, OK Food, Horrible Smell”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2007

Stayed one night on way to Orkney as ferry not running due to inclement weather. Staff very friendly and accommodating however second floor where our room located had an awful smell. Intolerable really, attempts by hotel to cover up with various fresheners proved of no benefit!!!

Keiss is a small harbour village and sometimes depending on which way the wind blows there is a waft from the harbour and as the bedroom windows are open in the mornings during cleaning occasionly we do get a whiff .We are sorry if you found it so awful.

“Good rooms, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2007

On arrival I was initially a bit upset as activehotel had charged me £60 for my room, but the rack rate in the lobby was £50, but nevermind.

The room was a nice size and with good amienities, I didnt eat evening meal at the hotel so I cant comment.

Was a little bit dissapointed that I was promised that I could get breakfast early so I could get up to John o groats (10 minutes drive) to get my orkney ferry tickets, but when we went downstairs, the cooker hadnt been turned on so it was toast and cereal instead.

However, I was too bothered as didnt feel like eating a cooked brekkie anyway.

Nice staff, good rooms, pub next door (£2.10 a pint). Ooverall very happy.
