“Average meal and a disappointment compared to previous visits”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2012 NEW

Visited this hotel for food on Saturday 26th May. There was a wedding on, which may explain the disappointment with the food compared to previous occassions. In the past we have always thought the food to be excellent, well presented and good portions. The portions are just as big, however, if anything, too big as a started and with the mains following so quickly we were left too full to even consider the desert menu. The burger was bland, the lamb fatty and poor and the venison not very tended. The starters were better, prawns and mussels being the highlight. Not sure if we would return as we ate in the Old Bridge Inn on the Saturday and thought it was significantly better. On a positive note, the staff are very friendly and efficient.

“GREAT WEEKEND”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2012

Stayed at this hotel as my wife and myself were attending a wedding reception to be held in it. Couldn't be handier for transport - bus stop at the door and the local train station directly opposite. The reception was easy and friendly. Rooms excellent - clean, comfortable with all extras at hand. The staff very helpful and very friendly - must be something to do with the air up north! Plenty of choices on the restaurant menus. And, of course, the wedding reception couldn't have been bettered.

Room Tip: Only downside was no lift. We were on the second floor and wife is still recovering from broken hip...

“Restaurant coped admirably with Bank Holiday crowds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2012

This was a busy May Bank Holiday Weekend as the skiing facilities were still open. We were a party of six and ate there both Friday and Saturday evenings. We were all impressed with the efficiency and friendliness of the serving staff. Although we had to wait until rather late for a table on the Saturday night, once we were seated the food was served quickly. Obviously both waiters and kitchen staff must have all been working hard for a considerable time but the food and service we received was excellent.

“Lively and at the centre of Aviemore nightlife - a great Scottish Institution”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2012

The Cairngorm is where everything happens in Aviemore.
It is straight across the road from the Railway Station, and the Bus Stops and has parking.
Many of the staff have worked there for years and they are friendly and very professional.
It has a big busy bar where the service is great and a sprawling restaurant with a lots of choice and good food along with some local specialities.
We've stayed there many times and the whole thing is a well oiled machine hence it's popularity with visitors and locals too.
The rooms are unpretentious and good with tea and coffee facilities but be aware that front of house above the bar can be noisy especially at weekends when it is open until around 1 am.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms - just some that are a little quieter

“Friendly and efficient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2012

As most other reviewers have said, this is a great hotel for a stay in Aviemore. We booked in on spec on the way home from John o'Groats and the end of the big cycle. It was a treat to be dealt with so efficiently and at a good last minute price. All the staff were very friendly and the food was well priced and tasty. There was lots of it, which we appreciated after a lot of exercise! Breakfast was also excellent. If you were off for a day on the hills, it would certainly set you up. It's got probably the most popular bar in Aviemore and that makes for a lively and entertaining evening. We like places with a bit of life about them and so The Cairngorm ticked all the boxes.
All in all, highly recommended.
