“Good Value for a family of 4 B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

The rooms we were in need refreshed (especially the bathrooms) but were clean, smell free, bed linen was excellent and the beds comfy, room heating worked well. I had to ask for a repair/replacement TV due to a fault and the tv was replaced quickly without issue.
Breakfast buffet was good, served in the main restuarant which entails a short 30 second walk outside between buildings.
Swimming pool / leisure centre is free to guests and received a big thumbs up from our kids aged 4 and 8 however the cafe at the pool could only serve black coffee - no cappucinos etc, and this was the case for all 3 days of our stay.
Overall for a family of 4 split over 2 rooms (no interconnecting ones available) we had a trouble free stay and thought value for money was good. Apart from breakfast we did not eat at any of the MacDonalds Hotels restuarants, and chose not to pay the high admission prices to the soft play area and cinema.

“Those with heating were lucky”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We stayed in the Aviemore Inn at the beginning of December. I'm just writing this review now as I thought I would give their customer services time to address our concerns before reviewing but after three follow up emails of our original complaint no one has bothered to get back to us a month after our stay.

We arrived yesterday around 2pm and were delighted to find out our room was ready to check in despite arriving early. However that was short lived on entering the room. It was freezing as the window was broke and wouldn't close allowing the wind to blow in. On our way out we told reception and were told someone would be up to fix it. On our return around 5pm it hadn't been fixed and I went back downstairs to find out what was happening. There was no one there so I had to go across the complex and spoke to a lady at the main reception. Later it still hadnt been fixed so I spoke to the front of house manager at the main reception. He was very rude and abrupt telling me "We know, you've already told us. I heard her (indicating another member of staff) on the phone about it". We went back up to the room waiting on someone coming to fix it. No one appeared and we spent the evening sitting in our room (so cold we had to wear our jackets at one point) waiting on a maintenance man that never appeared. By 10.30pm the cold had become unbearable. The wind was howling in the window, there was snow outside and my phone was showing a temperature of -2 and to top it all the heating had gone off.

I went back out, through the snow, to the main reception and spoke to another gentleman. He was very helpful and found us a new room immediately and cant praise him enough. He was a joy to deal with. However, the rest of the staff really couldn't have cared less about our problem if they had tried. Given that most of the floor where our new room was, was empty (he let us chose which room we wanted) I dont understand why we weren't moved earlier when we first approached reception rather than at almost 11 o'clock at night, four visits to reception and nine hours later and our evening ruined.

We had booked the night as an anniversary treat as my husband is not long after heart surgery and quite frankly it was awful.

I emailed customer services on our return and was told someone would get back to me. They haven't and they have had over a month to do so. Further enquiries are ignored.

Outwith the issue, the rooms are horribly dated, the one we moved to the wallpaper had started to peel off. One of the others we tried as a replacement we couldn't even get into because the lock was broken.

I would only recommend this hotel (and the company) if you like being treated like cattle and enjoy living in barracks for your holiday.

Room Tip: My tip to choosing a good room would be to book somewhere. The hotel rooms are very dated.

We stayed in one of the Macdonald Aviemore woodland lodges the week leading up to Christmas and the quality of the lodge was excellent. There was everything we needed for our stay, each bedroom has its own bathroom (with underfloor heating) and the upstairs bedroom was a haven away from the kids!! They had even put up an Xmas tree and decorations which was a lovely touch. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the amenities were great, the only slight issue was that the pool could have been a little warmer. Would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: lodges are great for families as you can all have your own bit of space but still keep an eye on the...

“a great find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Stayed here with family in the run up to Christmas. For just less than £50 it was a cracking bargain, and this wasn't a last minute booking. Booking in was easy and the room was fine. Don't know about other folk who complained about the heating, our room has a thermostat to control the heating.

Spent the afternoon sledging in the hotel grounds, then over the the pool which is free to hotel residents. It had a gym and spa, as well as sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

There was a host of entertainment lined up at the resort (it belongs to the Macdonalds brand). There was pantomime, cinema, a take that tribute night, a festive themed night to name but a few. Quite surprised by this as this was not detailed on their website (apart from TT theme night). Anyway went to the festive night and the kids loved it, the elves who were entertaining the kids when I booked in were singers and dancers who give it there all.

The breakfast was good and plenty, though I didn't eat at the restaurant. For £50 this was a cracking bargain. If you can get in here just before Christmas and bring your kids (I am booking again same time next year) you'll have a ball!

“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Booked this hotel the night before travelling to Aviemore. The hotel was maybe slightly dated but more then adequate, The early breakfast on sunday morning was excellent, the choice was varied, quality was very good, the view from our table was beautiful looking out towards the Cairngorms. The staff in the restaurant were great, friendly, helpful and very attentive. Contrary to other reports we had no heating in the room, which made it a little cool, we could maybe have asked to change but could not be bothered with the hassle and we only really used the room for sleeping.
