My boyfriend and I recently stayed at Corrour House for six nights and found it just perfect for our needs. About a ten minute walk from a lovely pub serving brilliant food and ale, and 15 mins from the centre of Aviemore itself. We received a lovely warm welcome from Carol and Robert, and just loved the fact the open fire was stoked and ready for our arrival home every day. The decor is very traditional - perfectly in keeping with the setting - and the rooms immaculately clean. Both Carol and Robert are very knowledgeable about the local area and helped us with ideas of where to go no end - nothing was ever too much to ask! The views of the mountain pass from the front of the hotel are just amazing, too, - this is the great thing about this place. You're very close to civilisation, but far enough removed to feel like you are out in the wilds, with deer and red squirrels visiting every day! We actually travelled to Aviemore by train, so can vouch for the fact that everything is accessible on foot if you are reasonably fit (as in, if you can walk for fifteen minutes or so). We were even able to rent skis and get up to Cairngorm Mountain as you can flag the ski bus down from the end of the drive. Can definitely recommend the nearby Rothiemurchus Estate too - the Land Rover safari is just brilliant! All in all this was just great - lovely setting, lovely people, fabulous breakfasts, a wonderful open fire and a perfectly restful break. Just what we had needed! Thank you, Carol and Robert!
