Sympathetically restored and modernised B&B with just two rooms on the main Grampian Road through Aviemore. Quiet despite the good location. Handy Spar store next door. We stayed in the Ruthven suite which has a four poster bed and separate small sitting room. The house is very well run and spotlessly clean. Breakfast good. Yes, there are house rules but these won't bother you unless you insist on smoking, making a noise after 10.30pm, drinking too much, returning after midnight or bringing hot takeaway food into the house - none of which applied to us. We liked the whimsical teddy bear collection in the breakfast room and the stone teddies in the manicured garden. We will happily stay there again.

I booked this B&B as a birthday treat for my boyfriend, since we planned to go skiing. We had a fantastic time. Glenn and Fiona were very accomodating of us and our early starts, leaving a lovely breakfast in our room for when we returned. I booked the Ruthven Suite which was very much worth the extra money - it was enormous, with a huge bed, plenty of space to put things, a hairdryer (a welcome addition!), a small living room with TV and DVD player, and a large bathroom. It was tastefully appointed, light and bright, and the living room was perfect for us to watch films in the evenings, plus it had tea and coffee bits which was handy. Breakfasts were really excellent and Glenn and Fiona were so helpful and friendly. Strathspey House is immaculately clean and tidy and so many tiny details had been thought of. We had a lovely stay, thank you so much Glenn and Fiona. If I had to make one small criticism, it would be that our shower at home is a fair bit more powerful, but there was plenty of hot water and lovely fluffy towels, so really it is a tiny criticism! We would love to return.

The proprietors have a self catering cottage behind the main building which was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a Spar shop next door and a Tesco about 10 minutes walk away. There is a hospitallity tray for a cuppa if you need a drink on arrival. The owners have membership of the Dalfaber country club and can provide a card if required which allows access to the swimming pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room.

I would just like to start off by saying that we are the young couple from Niddrie, Edinburgh and that we did NOT write the previous bad review.

Arriving at the guesthouse we were pleased with the location and the room. The reason our stay was unpleasant was because on our second after arriving back to the guest house after a nice walk in the woods after breakfast we were greeted by shouting coming from upstairs but didn't think anything of it. Whilst taking my boots off at the front door (as they were muddy and I didnt want to make a mess of the carpet), a woman who we had not seen in our time at the guest house came running down the stairs raising her voice demanding our key back. We had no idea what was going on and after following her back up the stairs discovered that all our things were lying in the hallway not even packed away properly. She then started saying that we were getting thrown out for smoking in our room. I was absolutely livid! I tried explaining that we have more respect for people than that! And that we were NOT smoking in our room. But she didn't want to hear it. She then went onto say that it must have been off our breath and that our clothes that were on the bed didn't smell of smoke. So who knows how the room could smell of smoke but not the clothes that we had been wearing? We had asked if necessary, could we go out after midnight for a cigarette, which we didn't need to as we were sleeping by this time. Anyway, by the time we left aviemore I was more upset than angry, I have never been treated like this from anyone and think it's absolutely disgusting to treat someone this way! I think that before you go blaming someone for something you should have proof as we did not smoke in the room and I think that if you really thought that we had you would have charged us for the 2 days of business lost!
