“DON'T STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2010

We stayed in their 'best' room at the front of the building.
It was freezing cold (snow outside) and the fan heater in the bathroom didn't work so my toddler had to bath in the cold. They told me that they couldn't do anything about the broken heater until I threatened to complain about substandard living conditions.
There is NO CENTRAL HEATING, only electric heaters and you have to wait about 45 minutes for the immersion heater in order to have any hot water.
All of this is paid for by you, the guest, via an electric meter which you feed with £1 coins. We spent 4 nights there and spent well over £20 on the electric meter.
The decor is also out of date and the blankets are acrylic.
If it weren't for the fantastic location, it would have ruined our stay in Glasgow.
Oh, and when I went to the hotel next door to check out - the woman opened the door and just took my keys from me before closing the door again - didn't even bother to ask how my stay had been.

“Not worth the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2009

There were three travelers from Canada, one adult and two teenagers. The bathroom was damp and no room to put your toiletries (need some sort of shelving) especially when you have three people in a room. Paying for hydro, I feel is inappropriate and just a money making hotel.
Furniture and bed linen should be updated. It took three hours just to do two loads of wash and I knew we could not do the large loads that we do in Canada, but after 3 hours and they still were not dry was not utilizing our vacation time very well.
One of the staff member was very friendly and helpful but I found the owner to be very rude.
I would not go back.

“Not a 4 star, not even a 3 star”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2008

We were disappointed with the appartments for the following reasons:

- bathroom stunk of damp
- shower walls had fungae on them
- room was cold, as electric heaters did not warm the place enough, in spite of the fact that we continiously fed them with pound coins. The latter in itself was noticeable extra cost.
- bed linen was not appropriare (acrylic blnkets) and worn out
-kicthenware was mostly and some of it broken (i.e pots without handles)

  • Liked — good location (near Botanic gardens and 5 minute druve from Kelvingrove useum

“Not a four-star establishment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2007

I would not recommend staying at the Embassy Apartments. We had a wedding party of 15 individuals that stayed at the apartments in early October, 2007, I had looked at the place beforehand and found it looked nice and recommended guests stay there. I am now very embarrassed I made the recommendation and would not suggest staying here.

The staff was extremely unfriendly.

One group had made a reservation on the internet, only to find the apartments did not have the booking.

I tried calling the rooms externally on a number of occasions and they desk would not pick up or would hang up the phone rather than making the transfer. (You cannot dial the rooms directly.)

One room was late in checkout (1:30 PM, instead of 11 AM). The guests had requested a pardon to checkout because they had been lost for 2 hours, but another 104 pounds (cost for a night's stay) was charged regardless. (I phoned the McQuade Group, who runs the apartments, to ask for the matter to be investigated, but they would not budge.)

The rooms were cold, and by the end of the stay, a portion of the guests had bunked up at other hotels rather than stay at the Embassy Apartments. You have to pay for all nights (less than seven) up front, so they were out the money.

I would expect additional charges, inflexible staff and poor room standards in a hostel or “budget” accommodation, but not in a four-star establishment. If you’re looking for four-star service, do stay at the Embassy Apartments.

“Get the right room and its great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2007

We stayed here for 2 nights in December 2006.

On arrival we were shown to a room at the back of the building on the ground floor. Although it was clean it stunk of damp and the bed actually felt damp. This was probably due to the fact the room was small and there was no extractor fan for the shower.

When we complained we were moved to a much bigger room on the first floor at the front of the building. I'm sure it was a much more expensive room but we weren't charged any more for it. The room was spotlessly clean, the kitchen was excellent and the bathroom and shower were fine.

The staff were pleasant and we would stay there again as the location is great for walks along the river and for Byres road and all it has to offer. We didn't have breakfast there so can't comment.

Worth the money if you prefer self catering and can avoid the damp room...
