We stayed at the Amadeus for 8 days while visiting family in friends. Since they lived right around the corner this was a perfect choice for us right off. But the location is excellent for those who are looking for value. The rates are reasonable. The continental breakfast is adequate. The underground (and access to downtown, Kelvingrove Muesuem, Glasgow U) is just a short 3 minute walk. Byers Road a few more minutes. There's a pub just down the street, several nice restaurants in walking distance (try Gambrino's), several coffee shops nearby (Enjoy was our favorite and had free wi-fi).
The hotel itself is older, with dated rooms such. We had a third floor room (no elevator ... just stairs that squeak like you'd expect in an old place) and the room seemed to be larger than most we've had in Europe. The beds were OK but a bit firm for my taste. The furniture is very dated - but adequate. Not all the rooms have ensuite bath. Ours did, but it is small, with a very small stall shower. The wireless was free, but didn't work consistently in our room. Worked fine in the hallway or the breakfast room. The staff was very helpful, pleasant and hard working. Breakfast was OK. - small selection of meats, cheese, croissant, bread, cereal and some fruit. Parking is on the street and free space seemed to be non-existent.
Given the prices of most accomodations in the UK, the Amadeus is good value for what you get. The Albion next door might be a step up in quality, but the price is a bit higher.
