“Basic and poor”

Had a terrible night's sleep in a very uncomfortable bed that was so hard! Room was clean but small and decor was really sub standard .Curtains didn't fit and were thin so light came through window. Breakfast was fine - owner was pleasant but didn't engage much.
Looked good from outside... but really disappointing - shabby and worn. Needed a complete overhaul - dated and tired.

“What's the problem ?”

Stayed for the 3rd year running - extremely smart and comfortable room, great breakfast. There is a note from the owner (?) pointing out that the refurbishment will take some time and for people to be patient - fair enough in my book

Would always make this a first choice when staying in Glasgow. The only (tiny) thing is that the reception from the only staff member we saw was a bit "laid back", she ahd no idea we had stayed before and wasn't interested when this was mentioned in conversation. There again, possibly a change of ownership ? - previously it's been either south american or eastern european staff, this time Northern Irish

There are MANY far far worse B&Bs in Glasgow, believe me !

“do not stay here!!”

I have recently stayed in this b &b and had the worst experience. Although the rooms are advertised as recently refurbished it was quite clear that my room hadnt seen a lick of paint since i was born. The decor was extremely dated. the room was cold and we were given a bed throw as opposed to any sort of duvet. the matress itself was so thin you could feel the cheap mdf below it. The breakfast looked the part but on closer inspection the individually wrapped cheeses were out of date as were the actimel so i didnt risk any of the fresh meats as they didnt have a date on them. Given that i am pregnant this was a huge shock to me. I couldnt really say whether the staff were friendly or not as i didt see them until i was paying my bill to leave (by that time i was just glad to be gettin out of there). I regret having stayed but i did ring around to see if there was any rooms available any were else and there wasnt. Everyone else had more sense. Please dont give these people your money because you will be sorely disappointed.

I have just read your review and feel concerned at this feedback, because we have never had such a negative review in the past. A few points I would like to clarify -

- the room temperature is controlled by the guests with the thermostat in each room
- there are duvets on all the beds and throws on top. Depending which room you stayed in, the duvets are tucked into the beds for the most, with a throw on top. I am sorry you felt you just had a throw, as this was not the case.
- We do not have MDF beds.
- I am sorry if you found something that was out of date. This was most probably the result of an oversight, and completely unacceptable.

I will say in our defence that my staff work very hard at keeping the rooms very clean and at keeping the many guests who come here very happy - and mostly we receive praise for this. In this case I will say that if only this guest had had the courage to point these issues out to us when they were here, we would have had the chance to do something about it.

Instead, when posting it on TripAdvisor this just damages our reputation, which is deflating for me and my hard working staff, and pointless all in all.

Next time you stay somewhere you don't like. Please have the courage to confront the owners - they will be grateful!

“Lovely little hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

The friendly, helpful staff makes up for the small, no frills rooms. The easy access to the subway is a big plus. Cold breakfast was great, offering cereals, fruit ,danish pastries, cheese, meat and crusty rolls, as well as beverages.

“Good Value, Good Location”

We stayed at the Amadeus for 8 days while visiting family in friends. Since they lived right around the corner this was a perfect choice for us right off. But the location is excellent for those who are looking for value. The rates are reasonable. The continental breakfast is adequate. The underground (and access to downtown, Kelvingrove Muesuem, Glasgow U) is just a short 3 minute walk. Byers Road a few more minutes. There's a pub just down the street, several nice restaurants in walking distance (try Gambrino's), several coffee shops nearby (Enjoy was our favorite and had free wi-fi).

The hotel itself is older, with dated rooms such. We had a third floor room (no elevator ... just stairs that squeak like you'd expect in an old place) and the room seemed to be larger than most we've had in Europe. The beds were OK but a bit firm for my taste. The furniture is very dated - but adequate. Not all the rooms have ensuite bath. Ours did, but it is small, with a very small stall shower. The wireless was free, but didn't work consistently in our room. Worked fine in the hallway or the breakfast room. The staff was very helpful, pleasant and hard working. Breakfast was OK. - small selection of meats, cheese, croissant, bread, cereal and some fruit. Parking is on the street and free space seemed to be non-existent.

Given the prices of most accomodations in the UK, the Amadeus is good value for what you get. The Albion next door might be a step up in quality, but the price is a bit higher.
