“Do not book online, had to leave”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We booked and paid for 3 nights via the website. After one night with little sleep we decided to move out. The matress was absolutely terrible. The cutlery at breakfast was dirty. The whole breakfast room was dirty. The hostess made me some hard boiled poached eggs. All in all not very pleasant. When we moved out it was made quite clear to us that there was no chance that we would be able to get the money back for the extra two nights that we paid for. Decided to flee and forget about it as soon as possible and not go into the frustrating process of getting the money re-imbursed. I left my phone number in case the owner wanted to prove to me that he was a good guy, but obviously never heard anything.

Room Tip: Ask to feel the matress first, before you book. Parking is not available.

“Had to leave it was so bad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

This place is absolutely disgusting, and I have written a large number of reviews, and this is the only time I have ever wished I could give zero out of five.

On arrival at the Lomond Hotel, as other reviewers seem to have experienced, we filled out some paperwork and were then told that our room was in fact at the Botanic Hotel, which is just Great Western Road. The staff at the Lomond were rude and made no apology for us having to go across the road in what was pouring rain.

On arrival at the Botanic Hotel again we were met by a rude receptionist who seemed angry that she had to deal with customers. We were given our room number which was on the top floor and, on entering the room, it was without doubt the most disgusting I had ever been in.

The carpet was so dirty that there were large bits of dust/hair etc and it had clearly not been cleaned in a long time. The toilet light didn't work, and the window sill was stained black with coffee cup marks and various other messes. We were obviously not happy at the state of the room, so went downstairs to complain and it just so happened that the cleaner was at reception as well, and she soon started to argue that the room was clean, so the three of us all went up and looked at the room. The cleaner then admitted that it was a tip, and asked if we would stay if she hoovered the room for us.

We politely said that we would not be staying at the hotel, and had to drag all our bags back over in the rain to the Lomond Hotel again to speak to the manager.

Don't be tempted by the cheap room prices - if you are looking for a cheap room in that area, the Clifton Hotel across the road is a million times better (this is where we ended up staying).

The place is absolutely disgusting, by far the worst I have ever seen and nothing at all like the photos on the website. The staff are rude and quite how they are still in business I do not know.

Room Tip: Do not stay at this hotel

“Worst Ever”

What a horrible place. We arrived and th ehotel looked nothing like its web picture. Signed some forms and was then told our room was in the hotel across the street. The Lomond hotel. SO we went over to it, It was just as bad, filthy and cold. I had to ask to get the heating put on. Room was in a dreadful state, dirty, paper hanging off the wall. Shower room made my skin crawl.
We got up for breakfast at 9 am only to be told they had stopped serving breakfast 2 minutes earlier.
What hotel stops serving breakfast on a sunday at 9am?
STAY WELL CLEAR of Botanics and Lomond hotels Glasgow

“made a sad trip for a funeral worse”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Complaints about my room:

1. the wardrobe was broken: 1 handle missing & 1 drawer hanging
off
2. socket on the wall was dangerous, I had to hold it in place to
keep it from coming away from the wall
3. en-suite was dirty, splatters up the door, wall, radiator,
shower walls
4. mouldy shower curtain & shower walls
5. painted shower tray, a hygiene issue
6. pubic hairs & hair on wall of shower before I used it
7. bath towel had rust red paint on it
8. the welcome to your hotel was one of disinterest, no warmth
9. red marks up the wall by the tea/coffee area
10. your hotel was cold & certainly no heating while I was there.
I had to use both quilts in my room as well as the blanket & had
several layers of clothing on at night
11. no porridge for breakfast as per the menu

It seems they take no pride in their business at all, & I certainly
won't recommend or be returning. I would be ashamed to offer
such a room to anyone. Cheap does not excuse
dirty conditions. A hotel that looks tired, dirty & ill-kept, nothing like in the photos on the website.

Room Tip: go elsewhere

“Good location for Glasgow University”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

I stayed at this hotel because of its proximity to Glasgow University which is just a 5 to 10 minute walk away. Hotel is fairly basic, I had one of the rooms with an ensuite bathroom which was adequate, threadbare towels and a bar of soap. The bed was not good and uncomfortable. The standard of cleaning was poor.
Plenty of bars and restaurants in the area. To get to hotel I used the subway to Kelvinbridge or Hillhead station form where it is a short walk. If you do choose to stay here take a look at the Botanic Gardens ( 5 minutes walk) they are well worth a visit,
I will not be returning to this hotel but will find somewhere else to stay.
