Stayed here for a function.Rooms are ok but a bit small and bathroom a bit mouldy,Corridors could do with brightening up.Food was not good which was expected as had a family meal in the bar area a few weeks ago and it was not good then and the service was very poor,This time the service was better but basic.Would rate well below travelodge and premier inns which does not say much for this hotel.Cannot comment on breakfast as after the meal in the evening decided would rather go hungry.

I stayed here with a large party of people in November. There were quite a few hiccups then but it was okay. Nothing to write home about. I have to say the cooked breakfast (Scottish) was dire. Since when was a cheap link sausage considered Scottish? The black pudding was raw and has put me off for life. All of the ingredients were cheap, cold and nasty. A horrible experience.

The hotel itself is nice enough but nothing special. The bar and dining area is nicely decorated.

I booked a room for myself last night as I was in the area on business and, yet again , the breakfast was awful. I asked for the Loch Fyne Kippers and the waitress went to the kitchen to ask if they were available. She came back 3 or 4 minutes later and said they were...my gut reaction was to order something else. I asked if they were being dug out of a freezer as it took a long time to get an answer...she said they were 'fine'.

They were diabolical. I couldn't decide whether they were ''boil in the bag' or microwaved. Either way, it was the worst piece of fish I have ever had the misfortune to eat. It was over-cooked, tiny, shrivelled and just awful. The waitress asked in passing if it was okay. I said I couldn't lie and that they were awful. She acted surprised (yeah right) and asked if I wanted something else. I had to leave for work so I couldn't wait. If it wasn't for the tiny pieces of cold toast I was given, I would have been very hungry.

The waitress, very obviously, went to the kitchen to tell the female manager what I had said and she emerged from the kitchen to have a look at me! She said nothing though. Very poe-faced.

There was no one at reception when I checked out. This is always the case at the Crowwood. Sometimes they leave a bell but only when it suits them.

Customer service is not one of their strong points to say the least.

Judging by many other reviews, it never has been. It seems the managers are the most difficult staff members so they are unlikey to change.

I arrived at this hotel to find a smell of dampness and smoke. As we got a cheap deal i decided not to complain (it was only a one night stay). A few days later i noticed they have deducted another night from my bank account...they accused me of smoking in the room (however neither me or my partner are smokers). They were very unhelpful when i complaind about this and i am having to take this to a lawyer.

Management response from ownerGlasgow, owner
(Management representative)

Thank you for your review. You stayed in a beautiful newlly refurbished bedroom and we have received many comments on the high standard of comfort and cleanliness in our new product. It is important to say that you were advised on arrival that in support of the Scottish Governments directive to provide a tobacco free workplace and destination, Crowwood Hotel operates a no smoking policy. All hotels require to support this important health initiative. You were also advised on arrival and did sign the acceptance that if you did smoke in your room the hotel reserves the right to charge for the deep cleaning of this room. We do provide, as you know lovely outdoor smoking areas. It is disappointing that you did choose to smoke in your room and were advised that since the room could not be used until deep cleaned it would be decomissioned and you were charged a reduced rate to do so. I am sorry that you decided not to use the designated smoking areas outrside instead. May I also state that you have not responded to my letter of explanation to you and that no-one has been in contact with me since I sent my letter to you. I have never received any legal communications in fact you have not responded at all. Again I regret this necessary action was taken, however we must maintain a smoke free environment for our customers and staff. There was no theft, you were charged for the decommisioning and cleaning of this room as a consequence of your smoking within it..

I had been at this hotel previously and I must say what a difference. I booked direct with the hotel and the reception manager was extremely helpful, she agreed a room rate which catered to my budget - very impressed. The hotel bedrooms are undergoing refurbishment at the moment - about time!! However my room was clean and comfortable - very good value for money.

Had dinner in the restaurant that evening and then breakfast again in the morning and no complaints - food was very nice.

Overall there have been many improvements since my last stay, very impressed with reception and restaurant staff - customer service is outstanding. I'll definately be going back and would recommned this hotel to my friends and family.

This is my second visit to this hotel, and if honest i booked it by mistake. My notes from the first visit (i travel a lot and have to do this in an attempt not to end up in the same hell holes again and again) were: expensive for what it was, dingy and very dated, bad food, and dont come again! as i pulled up this evening i was filled with dread as i realised i had been here before. I had booked a 3 night stay, but only paid for the first night with the receptionist just in case it was as bad as i remembered. I have been very pleasently suprised. the rooms have been updated, and although not stunning, are simple and modern, receptionist was pleasant, the shower is very good, and the food was very good and cheap! i have completly changed my view. If its down to the change of management - well done! you still have the usual problems with UK hotels; poor bed, small and dated tv, but all in all, if you can get it for a reasonable rate you should be happy.

  • Liked — updated rooms, good and cheap food
  • Disliked — small and old tv, needs to get flat screens
