“lucky dip”

Booked as a ‘mystery hotel’ through one of the well known hotel websites. And for the price it was a decent prize. If it were a village fete bottle stall it wouldn’t be the 15 year old malt, nor the 5 years out of date bottle of Worcestershire sauce (does Worcestershire sauce ever go off?), but something in between.
Décor was a bit try-hard boutique style, and looked a little dated already even though a new property. Reception staff were charming and friendly, the bar looked a little unoccupied for a Thursday night. Location of the hotel couldn’t; be faulted a short stroll from the shopping centre and the Central station. Our rate was room early, so we didn’t try the breakfast but found a most excellent café round the corner ‘where the monkey sleeps’ a must for fans of LP covers…

Room Tip: Aim for high floor street facing room

Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay. I was glad to read that in general everything was to your satisfaction.
I've certainly never had the Hotel described as better than an old bottle of Worcestershire sauce but not quite a bottle of Malt. I do hope that you consider us again the next time you're looking for a 'decent quality, reasonably priced bottle of red wine' type of place to stay.
Kind Regards
Karen Burke

“Great location, friendly, helpful staff and fantastic food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Just back from a very short stay in Glasgow. Fantastic location, a short walk from Queen Street Station and great for all the shops. Check in fast and very helpful, room was much bigger than what we are normally used to from other hotels, very spacious and clean. We booked to eat in the hotel as we didn't have a lot of time to spare before we went to the SECC and the food was out of this world. My husband and I had meal offer of two courses and a bottle of wine for £29.99, our daughter picked two courses from the menu for £12.99 excellent value for money. Breakfast choice good, buffet style, something for everyone. Pity we didn't have longer a stay but we will definitely be going back next time we are in Glasgow.

Room Tip: Our room was on 7th floor, was a back room, so no noise at all from busy streets.

“Good value, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I am just home from a romantic city break in my home city, staying at the Marks Hotel. The hotel is centrally located near to all the shops and restaurants of Glasgow. We had a large room which was tastefully decorated with a view over the city rooftops.
We arrived before check in at 2pm but the friendly receptionist kept our bags so we could go out and enjoy a relaxing lunch.
Several hours, and shopping bags, later we returned to the hotel to find our bags had been taken up to our room for us - lovely touch, thank you.
We enjoyed a drink in the bar before going out for dinner - fairly priced.
We had a good night's sleep - very quiet for a busy city centre hotel - then enjoyed a generous buffet breakfast. Only scrambled eggs were on the buffet but on request we got fried eggs, with a smile from the waitress.
All in all, we had a lovely stay and the staff were all friendly and helpful.
