“Beware !!!!!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Beware is an understatement,
Upon arriving at the said hotel we were told our room was outside and up some stairs, proceeded to stairs where lo and behold there was the biggest TURD known to mankind lingering beside said stairs(it was not fresh)and then the cigarette butts littering the stairs triggered the alarm bells.

Well arrived at room 502 and then reallity hit home----heater not working, staines on bed sheets, rugs covered in stains, bed cover threadbare, and that was just the bedroom.....now the bathroom---long hairs all over the floor and sink, tiles missing on floor,no warm water for shower in morning, mould, then lo and behold my wife turned on the cold tap and a lump of some description came out??? toilet door wouldn't close properly,it was all pretty disgusting,i am scottish and feel embarased on the owners behalf for the tourists who must turn up at this hovel and recoil in disgust.

Anyway at least the concert made up for that travisty

Room Tip: Dont book and head to Jury's Inn for a clean and respectful chain

“Excellent city centre location and very helpful staff.”

Stayed here for 3 nights while attending Celtic Connections. The room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent with a good variety of choices. All the staff were genuinely very friendly and helpful. Ourt stay included a Friday night and our room overlooked the main street and we didn't hear any noise.
The location is fab, minutes walk from anything in the city centre and surounded by a variety of excellent bars and restaurants.
Would definitely stay here again.

“Great Hotel, excellent location”

I went to Glasgow for three nights and decided to stay in the Merchant City Inn. I was worried about picking this hotel due to alot of bad reviews however because the location was so good I decided to go with it. We arrived at the hotel at 10am and check-in wasnt till 2/3 pm. The overall impression of the hotel was small but nice, clean and warm. The lady at reception was so nice and offered us a spare room to change or make coffee etc untill her room was ready. The rooms were a good size, nothing fancy but for the price you are paying it does the job!

The biggest pulling factor to this hotel is the location. You walk out the door of the hotel and you are basically on the main shopping street. We didnt need to get a taxi anywhere and the train station is basically a five minute walk. When we were checking out we had a seven hour wait for our flight - we had a look around the shops and when we came back they offered to open the little kitchen so we could make tea. I cannot reccomend this hotel enough, yes its not the Ritz but its a lovely little find where the staff go out of there way to be nice.

Room Tip: Get the breakfast it will fill you up for the day!!

“Realistic Review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

There's been a lot of bad reviews of this hotel, however, bear in mind that I paid £24 for a single room, so I wasn't expecting the Dorchester. Most of the time, you get for what you pay for, and in the case of the Merchant City Inn, it delivers great value.

The hotel is a very old building in the middle of the buzzing Merchant City, so bear this in mind - you can have a central location or a triple glazed new build with a car park - you can't have both.

Room was dated, although clean, and a great place to stay over if having a night out in Glasgow (which is why I was staying)

Friendly staff, and the best hotel breakfast I've ever had.

“DO NOT STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

I was in room 101 which backs on to The Polo Lounge nightclub. The noise from the club and the people in the street was so bad I had absolutely no sleep. There were people against the 2 bedroom windows until 5.20 am. I asked to be moved 3 times was told there were other rooms but the noise would not be any better. REFUSED a refund, the general manager, Janice attitude was the hotel is in the city centre, tough cookies. This is not good customer service or good hospitality. STAY WELL CLEAR
