“Great Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Just stayed for one night 11th Feb Very expensive for a fairly average hotel. Refurbishment going on no pre warning of this. Great location for SECC but will look elsewhere next time. didn't bother with breakfast as it's £15 extra per person went to The Counting House in city centre and had a lovely breakfast for £6.
Rooms very small bathroom TINY. i'm sure many other city hotels offer better value for money

Room Tip: river view rooms offer better outlook

Thank you for providing feedback from your recent stay.

I am sorry that on this occasion you felt that you did not receive value for money and hope that you reconsider and choose to stay again in the future when our refurbishment is completed.

In addition to offering complimentary Wifi throughout the hotel and high-speed broadband connection as well as an iMac in the rooms we are in the process of refurbishing all our bedrooms, doubling the size of our fitness facility and offering a complimentary business centre to residents providing internet, printing and photocopying.

Kind Regards
Brian

“Poor Value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Checked into the hotel, a non descript property near the SECC, and was offered a twin or a double....

Got to the room....smaller than Premier Inns. The bathroom was very small, so much so that if you sat on the toilet you coul not open or close the door! Shower was OK.

Stayed at the hotel amidst a re brand to Hilton Garden Inn, so workman and wires all over the place. Breakfast was again poor, given the cost of the hotel. Self service buffet. Asked for a poached egg but was told this was not available, scrambled egg or nothing!!

I paid £285.00 for 2 nights including 'breakfast'. For this money I would have expected at least a bottle of water in the room. There was, but at a cost of £2.75 for a half bottle of water!!

I have stayed in many hotels on business around the UK and this hotel must rate as the very poorest in terms of value. The rack rate is from about £65.00 - £205.00 If you get a room for £65.00 it might be worth it, but DO NOT pay anything above this unless you want to feel you have been taken for a ride. In fairness the room was booked via Superbreak, who I will also write to.

In conclusion...When in Glasgow, even at the SECC, book elsewhere

Room Tip: Ask to overlook the river if you stay.

“Modern hotel, great breakfast, room had a few areas that could be improved”

Is a nice modern hotel, contemporary furnishing and in a good location basically next to SECC and handy in many ways to key areas of interest. I was only there for one night, due to a business trip.

I enjoyed the breakfast and the service generally fine, what stopped it getting full points were -

- Check out, service was not great, could just be because of a bad day? also the £5 overnight parking charge, although not excessive, was a little bit of a surprise.

- Room temperature was an issue, I found it really difficult to sleep - due to the room temperature and bed which was not very comfortable.

Room Tip: Little tip - ask for a room with a river view if possible, I had a view looking out to the front and...

“Excellent location with Excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We have stayed at this hotel on several occasions and have never been disappointed. It is convenient for the SECC and it is within walking distance to the Science and Transport museums. Although the Hotel was undergoing refurbishment on the weekend we were there the Staff saved the day with their friendliness and professionalism especially Reception Girls along with Stuart and Maureen. If possible upgrade to the River View.

“Could have been so much better. Disappointed.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I choose this hotel based on it’s location and facilities for a recent business trip to Glasgow, unfortunately I was left feeling very disappointed and would not return based on my experiences overall of this stay. It’s a shame as I had heard good things about Mint from colleagues who had previously stayed in other hotels in their portfolio.

On first impressions when you arrive, everything seems well. The Mint brand is very ‘modern’ and the hotel looks of reasonable quality; it’s also got a free, secure car park, which is defiantly a huge benefit for a city centre location. The car park itself was full of work vans however, which should have set the alarm bells ringing!

As I approached the lobby, I was aware of a number of rooms on the ground floor that were undergoing renovations and sure enough, as you enter the hotel there were some walls that were bare plasterboard; let’s just say it wasn’t the warm welcoming atmosphere I was expecting. Check-in itself was pleasant enough although their was no mention of any work or lack of facilities on offer, instead the person checking me in was only too keen to emphasize the facilities on offer in the room including the iMac. It wasn’t until I read the note stuck to the wall in the lift that I realised exactly what was happening. It would seem that the hotel is being re-branded as a Hilton Garden Inn, meaning that whilst the work is going on the gym is closed and the restaurant/bar also is offering restricted service; don’t worry though, the management promise to minimize any inconvenience during this period (we've heard that before right)! The truth is it would have been nice for this have been mentioned when I booked, but then of course I would have stayed elsewhere.

The room itself was ‘OK’, although it was definitely on the comfortable side of small. Sure enough as promised on the website it’s fairly modern with an iMac as the entertainment ‘hub’ offering not only TV but a DVD library and internet amongst other features, I had no complaints here, it was nice. The bathroom was very small (you bang your arms on the wall when drying yourself when you get out the shower) and I would have preferred to have the option of a bath and/or shower, the Mint however only offers a shower albeit a well proportioned shower cubicle. The bed was very comfortable and when I finally got to sleep, had a good nights sleep.

My biggest problem was with the service I received going back to the renovation work that was taking place in the hotel. I unfortunately had workmen in the room next door to me sawing and drilling, the noise was pretty loud and whilst I accept this cannot be helped during renovation, the way in which is was handled was unacceptable. At 17:50 I had reached the end of my tolerance levels and phoned the front desk to enquire how much longer the work would be going on for, I was told it would be finished by 18:00 but as it was disturbing me, they would call the workmen and ask them to finish now; I couldn’t ask for more than this and hoped the noise would soon stop. Sure enough a few minutes later I heard the phone go next-door and a muffled conversation take place. The noise stopped for around 15 minutes and then, you guessed it, the drilling started again. Long story short it continued until after 19:30. It may seem that I am splitting hairs here but this it was made an otherwise OK stay for me turn into a negative one, I do not like being lied to; let’s not forget who’s money goes into the pot to pay for these renovations! The guests deserve better treatment than this.

I ordered room service in the evening and cannot fault the food. It was cooked very well and delivered promptly, there may have only been 9 chips on the plate but they were the best I’d had in a long while! All in all a stay which could have been good ruined by renovation work and staff who were not bothered about the disturbance it caused, I’m a regular traveler and this is most likely my last stay at the Mint owing to this experience, certainly, I’d have to think very carefully about staying in this particular hotel again.

My advice, call ahead and check the work has finished before contemplating a stay here.

Disappointed.
