I have stayed in this guesthouse several times because I love the fact that the owners have created a place with a distinct Gaelic atmosphere in this city.
They are from Eriskay in the Western Isles / Hebrides, and Angus is a native Gaelic speaker who is *very* willing to speak Gaelic to his guests, so this is an excellent opportunity for learners of the language (who might have been discouraged by rather negative reactions from some native speakers).
The house itself is lovely and well-cared for. It feels kind of grand with the elegant stairway and high ceilings, but it is a relaxed and informal place. The rooms (which all have names of Hebridean Islands, which adds to the atmosphere) are remarkably spacious, I had a large twin room with a couch and a large desk and large window all to myself. The one downside is that it can be a bit draughty in winter. The ensuite bathrooms are rather basic, the shower cabins a bit small and the water pressure could be improved, but that's a common problem in Scotland anyway.
However, the prices are very reasonable (especially considered the look and style of the house), the breakfast is excellent, too, and is served in a beautiful large room with a huge window. Angus and Cathie are both very friendly and chatty and make their guests very welcome.
Manor Park is in the west of the Westend, but there are good bus connections nearby, and it is also only about half a mile to Partick (train and subway station). Although the street on which the hotel is located is right next to a busy junction of two main roads, the guest rooms are very quiet. There is some traffic noise in the breakfast room, but it's not too bad.
Taxi drivers seem to have a problem finding the place, it helps pointing out to them that the street name is Balshagray DRIVE, not lane or anything else, and it's accessed from Broomhill Terrace.
The hotel does not offer free wi-fi access, however there is a BT/Fon hotspot available which you can log into for a small fee (it might be free for BT customers?) I found it very convenient to use, the connection was always fast and stable. I am not sure if the hotel itself provides it, as they do not advertise it on their website, but in any case, it is there.
