Firsrtly, this hotel is not as bad (at least, wasn't for me) as some of the reviews suggest. Yes, it has dated decor, and there are some slightly nasty features, such as mould above the shower and dirty nets by the windows (but then again, this is the same in my house). But for a reasonable rate- a quad room was £18.75 each a night, cheaper than a hostel- we had access to a clean and tidy hotel room with a beautiful high ceiling and original fittings, a good cooked breakfast (though this perhaps stops a little early during the week), free wi-fi, and a helpful check-in service. Was impressed that we were asked to pay at the end rather than the start, a nice change from most hotels! It is about 10 minutes walk from the main party are of Sauchiehall Street, but is quiet around the hotel, and around 10-15 walk from the main campus of Glasgow uni, the central point of our conference trip.
So really, if you just want somewhere safe and convenient to lie your head, there is nothing wrong with this place. If you will be out most of the day but want relative comfort in the hotel, this place is worth considering. If you want luxury, prepare your bank account for a pounding and look elsewhere- this is not a secret gemwhich offers 5 star luxury for budget cost.
