“Great service, great hotel, great staff - will return time and again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2009

5 of us stayed in the hotel - 3 in one room and 2 in the other. Rooms were massive - the family room had 2 bathrooms. Hotel was lovely, clean and fresh. It was nicely decorated for Xmas. The staff were friendly and polite. Room service for drinks was fast and twice our order was perfect - ice and lime. Staff all very friendly and professional. Fresh fruit at reception and wine and pringles in the room was a bonus expecially as the room was so cheap. Lovely breakfast delivered exactly on time and a fabulous coffee lounge with an excellent coffee machine all made our stay one to be remembered. I would go to Glasgow shopping as an excuse to use this hotel again. It was fabulous.

“Great value and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2009

My husband and I went to Glasgow shopping for the weekend and stayed in the hotel for one night. Our first impression was that the room was quite small, however had everything that we needed....and more. There was a Playstation (which we didn't use) a compact DVD player (and DVD's which you could hire for £2.00 each) and a lovely flat screen television. The room also had a large fridge which was stocked with two small bottles of wine (one red and one white - complementary) and a small tub of pringle crisps - very nice touch. The window in our room was very high up, and the only view we had was the side of a building. The bathroom was adequate with a fantastic heated towel rail. The shower was not particulary powerful, but did the job. The only thing I disliked about the bathroom was the black mouldy sealant around the bath....not particulary nice. The bathroom and room however were clean. The room rate states that it includes a complementary `grab and go breakfast between 7.30am-10.00am which includes muffins, pastries, fresh fruit etc - make sure you get there before 9.15am though because we went down at 9.15 and all that was left was a couple of pieces of fruit! Even though it was a weekend we stayed, we didnt hear or see many other people going about the hotel, and had a great sleep. There is also a residents lounge with a television where you can get complimentary teas and coffees (from a machine). The only time we had contact with staff was on checking in and out, so I cant really comment on them other than they were polite. All in all, it was great value for the money we paid and was near to all the shops and eating places. I would definately recommend it to others!!!!

“Take your earplugs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2009

Spent two nights (Fri & Sat) in the aparthotel. Quality of accommodation and equipment was good and staff at the hotel in Elmback Rd v. helpful (a problem with the hot water supply was sorted in less than an hour). Location looked ideal - 10 mins walk from the shops in one direction, a little further from Kelvingrove gallery in the other, and just a block south of the eating end of Saughiehall Street. Unfortunately, the flats are immediately above a busy junction and the 'double glazing' is totally inadequate when it comes to keeping the sound of traffic down. It certainly doesn't cope with the noise from souped-up superminis roaring round the block after midnight. I managed to sleep in the end, thanks to earplugs and a pillow over my head, but I won't be going back unless/until the bedrooms have better sound-proofing. A great shame, because it has so much else going for it.

“Not what I expected of a Best Western Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2008

I have just returned form a 3 night stay at the Best Western Glasgow City Hotel.
On arrival I was told that there were no cooked breakfasts available only a limited complimentary buffet which consisted of croissants & pastries together with tea or coffee from a flask to be drunk from paper cups.
Full payment was required in advance before the room key was handed over.
I had booked a double room for my sole use. What I got , as several previous reviewers have remarked, was a single room containing a double bed. The room was spotless and well equipped but two people would have found it difficult to move around in the limited space. The room should have contained a DVD player but on asking at reception I was told " We do not put them in those rooms because they are too small but you can borrow one"
Overall this was not the experience I would expect from a Best Western branded hotel.

“Ok for the price, but nothing to rave about”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2008

We stayed here for 2 nights and took advantage of booking online and paying up-front as it was a cheaper rate - came to just under £60 per night.

The room was absolutely tiny - opening the wardrobe doors meant that entrance to the (tiny, but clean and modern) bathroom was impossible! But the room was ok, and we weren't spending much time in there. It was nicely decorated, huge flat screen TV, free drinks for the first night (nice touch), powerful shower.

We did have a noise problem on the second night - sounded like something in the water pipes - a noisy, vibrating kind of rattle woke me up at least 3 times, and I was wearing ear plugs! Apart from that, our stay was quite good. Nothing amazing, but for the price it was fine. Really close to Sauciehall Street, if you like that kind of thing, and a short walk to the Glasgow School of Art.

Staff helpful, pastries/fruit provided for brekkie in the very small residents' lounge. Difficult to rave about it, but difficult to find much fault with it. If you don't expect a huge room, you'll be fine!

  • Liked — Cheap rates; central location
  • Disliked — Our room was very small
