“Not 5 star - but good enough 4”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Deluxe room was facing courtyard and very quiet. Decor is a bit too industrial modern for me, but plenty of space, all clean and modern and so no complaints really. Lovely marble bathroom. A request for a bottle opener was met within 2 minutes. Service was very friendly and breakfast lovely.
Only things that don't make it 5 star are the lack of meet and greet at the front door, automatic parking and free use of the Spa - it's petty to charge for these at the prices this place is asking. Overall it just manages to avoid being too "corporate". I like it.

“5 star - not so sure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The building looks the part externally and internally and location is great. There is no reason to disbelief any of the other excellent reviews on this site and overall I had no real problems. Bearing in mind we paid £170 B and B per night, for a couple of nights I will only make comment on a few practicalities.
Parking - a five star hotel with no guaranteed parking outside, charging "from £27.50" to valet park. Car Park is close by, park it yourself for half the cost, it seems that's what they want anyway.
Dining - tried to book a table for two, a week in advance, for a Saturday night. The best they could offer was 10pm. Better off at Two Fat Ladies or Chardon D'Or both within a hundred mtrs.
Breakfast - Not buffet breakfast but not freshly cooked either. OK, but definitely not five star.
Concierge - No-one at the door to help up the front steps with cases nor anyone to show us to the room. (8pm Friday night)
Spa - Guests are charged an extra £20 for use of the hotels basic spa facilities (steam room, sauna etc.) during the day. Most five star and lesser hotels have these facilities inclusive for guests.
Again I must say we had a good experience, but 5 star...almost.

Room Tip: Room 314 courtyard had a low level drone, either next doors A/C or water pipes...not sure.

“amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My friend and I stayed here from the 4-th to 6th Feb. Lovely hotel. The food was lovely and by far the best part was the spa! I could have stayed in it all day! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We felt like VIP's! Even the cleaning staff wished us a good day ( they usually don't speak to us in other hotels that we have stayed in ).
The room was lovely and the bed was so comfortable!. Thanks to all the staff and a special thanks to Nick Bruce on reception, Hugh and Wendy. We will definitely return.

“chic comfort in the heart of a great city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I was treated to a weekend here for my birthday. When we checked in we were asked if we were here for any special reason and I mentioned my birthday and 5 minutes later a plate came to our door with `Happy Birthday` written in chocolate and an assortment of truffles! Little courtesies are the mark of a fine hotel in my book. We had a classic room- very comfortable bed, marble bathroom with deep doubled ended bath so room for two (!) and separate shower. We didn't dine here or have lunch but breakfast both mornings was first class- with great coffee. My scrambled egg and smoked salmon was excellent with masses of thickly cut salmon. We used the spa facilities twice- before dinner one evening and one morning before breakfast. Lovely relaxing experience. As other reviewers have commented, there are a lot of staff whose entire focus is on ensuring you have a great experience. We'll certainly be back.

Room Tip: We were given a room overlooking the inner courtyard which was very quiet.

“Superb stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

Stunning hotel. Daisy cocktail from the bar highly recommended. Breakfast cooked to order & in lovely surroundings. We had a wee room - special mention to the most wonderful bedding & loved the Harris tweed curtains. Lost a point as the bath tub was also wee & limited natural light as the small window looked onto nearly an internal courtyard, however still loved it & plenty of lights in the room. Great stay, will be back!
