“friendly staff , cold room , usual smell , 59 pound a room”

We have arrived quite late nearly 3.00 at night after payment we manage to get a key after that straight away upstairs , quick shower and bed .
In the morning breakfast ( nothing special , not much for veggies )
instant coffe , poor breakfast but I am aware for that price it's difficult to get better quality . Staff friendly and cheerful . Good enough if you are there only for a night and you really like low temperatures .

“Just basic with costing a bit more.”

Very Basis B&B, situated close to the city centre, place needs a new TV as existing TV had no buttons. Breakfast was alright with a friendly service.

“Basically better than most places at that price.”

Good location for sightseeing, and nightlife. Easy to get to, and there is a 24 hour reception. I found that the single room I reserved was cheaper through their website than anything qouted on general find-a-room websites.
Upon arrival, I was advised to upgrade to an ensuite single (for another £23 for the 3 days). SInce I was on a tight budget, I turned the offer down. But after 5 minutes in the tiny single room I had booked, it was clear that I had to move. The noise of the howling wind was something out of a scary movie. Steer clear of booking the single with a shared bathroom, unless you just need a crash pad (and bring ear plugs)! The single ensuite, however, was of a better standard, and had a view of the city and the art school. The bed was comfortable, and the breakfast was okay, nothing special. I prefer basic travel, so I felt the amenities on offer were sufficient.
However I did feel like it was false advertising about the room I had booked, that then meant I had to pay for an upgrade. At least I managed to talk the price down a little. Still, the price for a single was still less expensive than most places!

“Good basic B & B close to the centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

It's very easy to write negative reviews about B & B accommodation, but it really depends on what you are looking for and your expectations. We were visiting Glasgow and just wanted one night close to the RSAMD on Renfrew Street. We chose the Alba Lodge and overall had a pleasant stay.

Yes it is basic, but that's what we expected. Two reasonable size rooms ( 2 and 5 ) which were both big enough for three beds but we just booked a twin and single. Beds were clean and I certainly slept well. En suites looked new and had good shower units.

The main plus point was the service provided. Pleasant and very helpful. The TV in my daughter's room had lost its remote so he brought a TV up from downstairs for her. Willing to offer assistance on the parking scheme ( which at £6 roadside for 24hrs I thought was excellent - well done Glasgow council ) We did have to park on the next road up but that wasn't a problem.

Breakfast was bacon egg sausage and beans for cooked, and we were offered more if we wanted it ( first time I've encountered that ). Range of cereals, milk and fruit juice. Plenty of brown or white toast.

All in all at £30 a head I thought that was great value for a location that's only 10 to 15mins from the centre ( but even less if you just want the eating places and bars on Sauchehall Street which is the next road down )

And just on one point raised by an earlier reviewer, yes you are asked for your payment up front, but my wife asked if she could look at the rooms first and that was fine.

I'd have no problem booking here again and I will happily reccommend it to those people who do not go in expecting 4* facilities, but just want a basic, comfortable room, good breakfast and pleasant and helpful service.

“Very Friendly Staff Made the Alba Lodge a Great Place to Stay!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2010

The Alba Lodge isn't the Four Seasons--it provides you with very basic accommodations; but for about $60 a night, you get a very friendly staff, a comfortable room, and you're about 50 yards away from Sauchiehall St. and the vibrant City Centre. I stayed there for two weeks, and loved it. (I often had trouble waking up in time for the free 7:30-9:00 breakfast, however.) Minor glitches: Bring or buy your own shampoo, and you might want to bring your own towels, also. And be careful in the shower--the shower floor can be slippery. Overall, though, a great deal for about $60 a night. I'd definitely stay there again.
