We were cold.
We were soaked to the skin.
We were utterly, utterly exhausted.
Having just completed the Edinburgh to St Andrew's bike run in appalling weather we were in dire need of some home comforts.
Thankfully the Bay Trees Bed n' Breakfast provided it all – and a lot more.
Deborah welcomed us in, sorted our wet gear and showed us to a lovely room.
We'd done 70 miles that day, but Deborah has also gone the extra mile by adding lovely wee touches that make her Bn'B that bit special.
Tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room, not unusual, but a wee fridge with fresh milk and cool water – we liked that.
Flat screen, cable telly – perfect for chilling out.
Bathroom immaculate, but more importantly a great shower – just what we needed to warm up our aching bones.
The thought of cycling into town that night (about 10 minutes by bike) didn't appeal, but Deborah gave us a lift and showed us to a great Indian restaurant.
A long, lazy breakfast reading the Sunday papers was just what we needed.
A lovely cycle through the park took us back into the centre of St Andrews and now that the weather was lovely (typical) we both wished we were staying longer.
To sum up – The Bay Trees, immaculate and stylish but despite two soggy cyclists turning up, Deborah couldn't have been more welcoming. £36.50 each for the room – well worth it.
Couldn't recommend it more.
