“Comfortable / great service”

Just back from a 3 night stay at this B&B to attend a hogmanay wedding. We had booked to stay next door at the Charlesworth but they sold their property and proposed Brownlees...and we certainly can't complain about the change.

The room was tastefully decorated and very comfortable, with a massive double bed and spotlessly clean everywhere. Tea & coffee was provided in the room as well as toiletries and all stocks were replenished like magic every day. Breakfast was to order, copious and tasty - and was even served with a Bucks Fizz on the 1st Jan which was a very nice & much appreciated (!) touch. The hosts were really friendly and always chatty. We weren't there to golf but it was clear from their discussions with our breakfast neighbours that they give great advice on that front.

We initially had problems with the TV reception but this was addressed in the best way possible - as soon as they were made aware of it, the hosts let my husband borrow DVDs to watch (while I abandoned him for the hen night) and the following day a new television was installed.

The location was great, a short walk to everything, and we felt this place was good value for money (for St Andrews, where the cost of accommodation is generally high).
Would definitely recommend.

“We'll definitely come back”

Staying at Brownlees was the best experience in B&Bs in St. Andrews.

Jaqueline and Trevor are extraordinary hosts, providing us not only with great breakfast and great recommendations where to go for food and drinks or which course to play, but simply made us feel at home. After staying the originally planned two nights, we decided to prolong our stay as we liked the Guest House so much. Sadly, this was not possible, as the proprietors went on a well deserved vacation, however they still concerned themselves with finding us a nice place to stay.

Also, Brownlees' location is perfect, just a couple of minutes walk to basically everywhere in town, including three of the St. Andrews Links Courses (New, Old and Jubilee), city center etc. The rooms are nicely sized and comfortable.

Thanks again and hopefully we'll come back soon!

Good overall, refused access to any toilet facilities when collecting bags having spent a lot of money there.Have been regular clients but not again after the cursory way we were treated.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. The rooms have to be vacated by 1000am to enable us to prepare them for the next guests. Check in is from 1200 onwards therefore, when you returned to collect your baggage which we had kindly let you leave until 1300, the rooms had already been serviced and occupied by the next guests. The toilet facilities that you requested were therefore, unavailable. We do not have any more WC's other than our own personal one. We are sorry that this spoiled your stay with us and wish you many happy stays at other establishments in St.Andrews, which you may find also operate to the same remit.

“Excellent”

We stayed at Brownlees for 3 nights at the end of September. The house is spotless and very comfortable and the breakfasts were AMAZING! Our visit coincided with Freshers Week so there were some quite loud parties going on in the town, but Brownlees itself is situated in a relatively quiet area and yet just a short stroll into town. We found parking to be a bit of an issue; Brownlees itself does not have parking but there is a public car park adjacent which unfortunately was usually full. There are about a dozen guesthouses in this area, plus it is quite convenient for town so the carpark was always busy. We did find parking on adjacent streets which was fine, but might be a consideration for the less mobile. Free wifi was a definite plus and very useful. All in all I couldn't fault it and would definitely stay there again.
