Arrived in the hotel at 8.30 in the evening, and checked in smoothly. Friendly all around.
My room was a double deluxe on the third floor. There is a good lift until the second, after which you need to go up an easy staircase. The hallways are pretty wide, well illuminated, in good condition and pleasantly smelling, and so is the room.

Great location by the way, central, close to the water and the golf courses… General comment: St Andrews may give the impressions of a sleepy little town, but there will always be some to extensive street noise at night. Try and get a room in any hotel as far away from the street side as you can!

The size of the room is absolutely fabulous, room for a double sofa, two comfy chairs, a desk and chair, and of course the bed – and still room for more than five suitcases and a piano! Hypothetically speaking. What was nice about this particular room (319) is that it has a bit of a quirky layout, and it’s under the roof of course which adds to the cosiness.
The decoration is very neutral, the one little painting above the bed rather meaningless – yet the interior doesn’t give you a ‘cold’ feel. It must be the choice of earth tones, and the use of different shades of paint on the right walls…

Bed sheets and towels were clean, as is the room generally. The bathroom too – I bumped my head against the shower glass thinking it wasn’t there! (Had a flashback to my toddler days there.) The bathroom could generally be a little bigger though, considering the size of the room, I wonder why it’s not been made a bit more proportionate, so a bath could be fitted.
The disappointing bit is inside the shower itself I guess. Probably the least clean, with mouldy spots starting to show on the white tile grouts (which I must say, have been applied a little sparingly). The inside handle is broken, though that is only an aesthetic issue, it does not make it difficult to step out of the shower. Temperature and pressure of the water is fine though, though you need to give it a moment before warm water comes through (in the sink as well). Shampoo and soap from Lux by the way.

Breakfast! From 7.30 to 10AM downstairs, which is a comfortable time slot. Had ham & scrambled eggs and it wasn’t particularly amazing, but certainly acceptable. There’s smoked kippers on the fresh menu too which is a good call, but must admit I haven’t tried them.

Dinner! Residents get a 25% discount from the food served in the pub/restaurant downstairs (there’s no room service). I had the Greyfriars curry (a fruit curry, apparently) and that was very nice, good portion, yummy. Also, the Lime & Lemon bavarois with (homemade?) vanilla ice cream was deeeelicious. Made my day.

Last remark : I left the Do not Disturb sign on the door in the morning, but when I came back, the room had been serviced anyway. Thank you, but really, I had put it on so nobody would see my unmentionables strewn across the room……!

All in all, I’d definitely recommend people staying here. Best price/quality in St Andrews and beyond which I’ve seen so far!

I booked this hotel for myself and the family based on prior reviews and I am so glad I did.
The location is superb, the rooms were excellent and luxurious with a lift for my elderly father and the restaurant was good.
We had booked a table in the restaurant as it was my son's birthday and he could not get home from university. The food was excellent and they helped me with presenting him with a birthday cake and successfully embarrassing him by posting birthday wishes on the big screen in the restaurant. I think that despite the embarrassment, this made his birthday!! He had a super time.
The breakfast menu is extensive and delicious and all in all we couldn't have had a better time, even the weather complied with our plans!
As my son is only in 1st year, we will no doubt be using Greyfriars again and would recommend it to anyone else visiting St Andrews. Thank You!!

From when I started communicating with Jinty from Greyfriars to the day I left, I only experienced exceptional service. Not only was the hotel clean, I had a fabulous room that was spacious & had everything you could possibly need...even a fantastic hairdryer (which is a rarity in hotels for some reason)! The food was great, the staff friendly & nothing was too much trouble. I'd left my mobile charger behind & one was instantly produced. I needed help with taxi's and a brilliant company was recommended. Jinty and the rest of the team were superb and made my trip a wonderful success. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them & hope I will be able to go back and visit again.

We've stayed at Greyfriars in St Andrews every winter for the last 5 years. It is one of the few hotels to offer a double and 2 single beds in one spacious room (perfect for families of 4).
