We have just returned from a 12-night stay, on the top floor of the Castlemount, visiting our daughter, son-in-law, (new doctoral student at St. Andrews), and 5 month-old grandson. Reviewer "jmamm", I am with you. We too, "[could not] imagine how it could have been any better."
Every morning was "just another routine morning in paradise!" Jerry and Linda-Anne (and a wonderful, personable, staff-team: Kirsty, Lindsey, Sophie, and Jen), exceeded expectations beyond measure. How else do you explain, the invitation extended to have our 'kids' join us for breakfast? While I am certain capacity limits this kind offer, we had it extended more than once. It's just "something they like to do, when parents visit students."
The view? Stunning. You may forget to eat. (Ask about the Bell Rock Lighthouse).
Breakfasts? Superb! Assorted cold cereals, fruits, cheeses, with yogurts, then hot individual, made-to-order, personal pre-heated (read "HOT!"), platters. Sides of the BEST pancakes. (You have to try the haggis as well). Special needs, if required, are offered.
The room? Lovely, charming, all we needed and more. You will not likely spend much time in the room - too much in the town and surrounding area to see. And, if you have questions in that department, ask Jerry. He will give helpful direction.
At the risk of saying more than I should, I will mention that I inquired about a hardware location, to get picture-rail hooks, to be able to hang some art in our daughter's student housing flat. "I'll get you some, from my garage, after breakfast," was his reply. That was the first of several forays, as he "kitted [me] up" with the needed tool or supplies, to help our students get more homey, in their surroundings. Thank you, Jerry.
Totally unrelated, but worthy of mention; watch for a lovely lady, walking, (with cane), her little white Scottish terrier, along The Scores, every morning. Wilma added to the charm of our mornings. Delightful! Do greet her, if you have the opportunity.
The Beauliers exuded generosity and hospitality beyond the call of duty. If I posted it all on this review, you would wonder about the credibility of the author, or whether it was a misplaced review. So Jerry, if I have said too much, I will remind you that "[You] run the place", and I write the review.
I recommend this charming experience, without reservation.
Thanks for a wonderful stay, Jerry and Linda-Anne.
