“What a wonderful place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

The situation is just ideal; walking distance from the town centre but quiet at night. The house is lovely, full of interesting curios with charming touches' and a nice terrace to use in the sunshine. Our bedroom was very comfortable, nice biscuits, decent tea, guest fridge so fresh milk and orange juice, lots of towels, a basic TV (3 channels but who cares when you are in such a lovely city). The hostess, Monica, was really helpful, recommending places to visit and eat and giving us a glass of wine when we looked as if we needed one. Breakfast was wonderful, fresh fruit salad, organic yoghurt, fab bread, homemade marmalade, lots of choice and all nice, even the mushrooms and tomatoes which are the downfall of many a B and B. All in all, spot on!

“Ticks all the right boxes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2010

For a short visit, perhaps like us to sample the delights of the Old Course and some other links courses in the neighbourhood, this small B & B ticks all of the necessary boxes.
It's comfortable, Monica is a congenial and chatty hostess, the location is excellent (central but quiet), and the breakfasts were well prepared and varied - smoked salmon and scrambled duck eggs, haggis, and black pudding all made an appearance alongside the usual suspects.

Well-appointed cosy rooms, though if you happen to want wall-to-wall cable TV you are pretty much out of luck. WiFi is available. The living room is strewn with interesting antiques and odd objects - you may get quizzed as to what purpose they once served. Pretty garden and deck for summer visitors. Parking available on the street (c. 50 yards away on the other side of a stream occupied by the ducks of the name).

One big plus is that Monica seems to know everyone in the local restaurant trade and is only too happy to supply cards that get you a warm welcome and a free bottle of house white or red at several eateries in town. The places she directed us to were uniformly pleasant.

Can't think of any minuses off hand - if you are allergic to dogs there is one in the house, but Tinker appears to be a well-adjusted and friendly hound.

Recommended.

“So very fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2009

Staying with Monica, even for the first time, was like staying with a long-term friend. Her friendly, welcoming nature puts a guest so at ease in her house, making one feel special. The other guests were fantastic also, ensuring breakfasts and meals together were sublime. Rooms are excellent, food exquisite and location perfect.

“Graduation Hats, Gypsy Dog, Creating Friendshlps”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2009

I booked in November for my son's June graduation, and Monica spent the intervening months emailing advice and encouragement. During graduation week Monica arranged quick laundry service, arranged meal reservations, provided the all important hat, and kept us laughing with her wry tales. Breakfasts with two other sets of grad parents were especially fun; it's as if we were visiting old friends. When Monica was on hand, she always offered a drink. The lounge and deck were pleasant areas for relaxing. Tinker is Monica's Lurcher, a gypsy dog who loves a pat. Monica's eclectic furnishings, flower-filled garden, and bird houses/feeders show her exuberance, generosity, and good taste. DId I mention the option of duck eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast?

“A special place”

We love St Andrews and usually rent a house there for a week or two but if you're just staying 2 or 3 nights this central (five minutes walk from the centre), but quietly located, Victorian terraced house is just the thing - particularly, if like me, you don't want a tartan
carpeted bland hotel with golf clubs on the wall. I've stayed here twice now as the rooms have big comfy beds and lots of quirky features in keeping with the house. The lounge/dining room has lots of antiques and pictures to look at. This place has real character - as has your hostess, the irrepressible Monica, who gives you a warm welcome and is a mine of local information and good ideas on how to pass your time if you haven't been to St Andrews before. With just six guests there's a friendly atmosphere for breakfast and a chance to chat to your fellow guests round the dining table in the bay window. Highly recommended!
