“Sensational”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

It`s not cheap but its probably one of the best hotels in the world. Food is amazing and in fairness not really as expensive one might think. My wife used the spa facilities which were superb. it may not be a regular break unless you are very wealthy but once in a while is just right.Don`t forget to visit the little pub round the corner "The Jigger" that looks toward the the town small and very cosy.

Room Tip: All good as far as I am aware

“excellent night away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

just back from an overnight stay , and I can honestly say this is one of the nicest hotels that gives you 5 star treatment and value for money. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the rooms (we stayed in the cheaper ones) are really really lovely. From the moment you arrive..its a very nice experience..the staff are warm and friendly, and cannot do enough for you..we were offered a glass of sparkling wine on arrival, then shown around the hotel, and taken to our room.
Our was just an overnight stay, but would have loved a few days there just to soak up the atmosphere..because this is what I think this hotel has..and lots of it..I certainly think that of many of the 5 star hotels I have stayed this has to be one of the better.I cannot praise the staff highly enough,in all departments..and hope to return in the not too distant future

“Luxury! Beautiful views and wonderful service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Our stay here was lovely. The staff are great, the food tasty and the rooms luxurious and comfortable.

The views from all around the hotel are gorgeous.

My only criticism is the cost of the spa treatments. Although the facilities are excellent - great pool, gym etc, the treatments aren't great value. Maybe better to wander into the town to a nearby salon.

“The sands grill food was perfect!”

We never stated at the hotel but did go for Christmas lunch. The food was fantastic and excellent value for money. The staff were friendly and had a great Christmas atomosphere. Would definately eat there again.

“Sumptuous Rooms, Supurb Food and Attentive Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We stayed here for two nights over Christmas with our two young children. The first thing to be aware of is this is a five star hotel with five star prices. There's no avoiding that. That said, if you have the means, I'd heartily recommend a stay here.

It's fair to note that most five star properties tend to tolerate children. The Old Course Hotel welcomed our two tiny terrors with open arms (our boys are busy, busy, busy). Santa piped us into reception on arrival the afternoon of Christmas Eve. The doorman was at our vehicle in seconds to assist with our (many) bags which were whisked to our room. While checking in a manager came out to greet us and toured us around the entire hotel before taking us to our beautiful, large room.

The rooms are large and elegantly decorated. The bathrooms are gorgeous with a huge soaker/whirlpool tub and glassed in shower. The bed was very comfortable with top quality linens, as you would expect. Our older (toddler) son slept on a pull out sofa (the most comfortable one I've ever encountered) while our youngest slept in a cot. There was lots of room for everybody, plus all the luggage and gifts, without ever feeling cramped at all.

The hotel had set up a games/play room for children in their conservatory. This was fantastic for kids of all ages (I'd guilty of a bit of bowling on the Wii they'd arranged) and was just another reason that the hotel was hitting all the marks.

The food was over the top. The quality of the breakfast was the best I've encountered in a fair bit of global travel. The Christmas lunch was a nap inducing indulgence. It was wonderful. The dinners were also fantastic both nights. Lots of little extras were included (Champagne, Christmas crackers, Santa with presents for the kiddies at Christmas lunch).

The small touches were what really topped it all off. Santa came by on Christmas morning with presents for each of the kids. Two treat bags were dropped off on Christmas Eve for the reindeer (each containing a carrot and sugar cubes for the reindeer and mince pie and a bottle of whisky for Santa) as well as a glass of wine for Mom and Dad.

The location of the hotel is quite special, particularly for golfers (think, 16th fairway, Old Course). It's a hop across the golf course to the beach and a 5 minute walk to the village. We walked the village on a blustery Christmas Eve and it was the most quaint place you can imagine.

Highly recommended.
