My husband and I stayed at the Russell for 6 nights the end of August and totally enjoyed the experience. The staff of the Russell - Gordon and Fiona, Helen, Alex, Janice, Pam, Hazel, Julie, and Martha (forgive me if I've forgotten anyone) went out of their way to make our stay pleasant.
Our room was on the top floor; yes, 45 steps, but good exercise! I couldn't believe how quiet the room was - the only sounds we ever heard were the gulls. The room had plenty of storage for clothes with two nighstands, a desk with lots of drawers, and a wardrobe; the bathroom looked to have been recently remodeled; wifi was excellent; everything very clean; and when we asked for a fan to aid in circulation, Janice and Pam readily found one for us. Thanks!
We ate quite a few meals at the hotel, utlizing the bar and restaurant menus. Everything we had was delicious. Breakfast selections ranged from yogurt, fruit, cereals and juices, to hot breakfasts cooked to order. One evening we had dinner in the private dining room - fun to do with a group. Lunch and dinner menus were wide, varied, and creative. Kudos to the chef.
Staying at the Russell was like staying in a comfortable home that happens to have a pub downstairs. There were tables outside the front where you could enjoy the sunset while sipping wine or drinking a beer.
Parking was never an issue. There are plenty of free spaces right by the hotel; we never had to circle more than once before we found a spot. St. Andrews is very easy to get around; don't freak like I did before we got there, worrying about getting from one place to another. It is simple.
