Viewed this establishment late December with a view to staying next year. We were shocked at the appearance of the hotel and the young incompetent staff. We were shown to a room reluctantly and it appeared damp with mould growing around the bath. Ladies toilet was dirty with overflowing bin. Could be a fabulous hotel under new management. Needs a total refurbishment and as it is in a beautiful setting has great potential.

We visited the Sandford last year for my partners birthday. The staff were really helpful and when I phoned with a request that they send a compliments slip to my partner to reveal the surprise they were more than happy to help. The room was large with a huge bed, lovely views, fab shower and was clean. Good distance from Dundee as your only a 5/10 minute drive away from the centre yet your in the country however I would recommend that you have a car. We had dinner in the hotel next to a fire place which was lovely and although the staff had a large party on that night they still made sure that we had drinks and were comfortable. Breakfast was also good with a nice selection of cooked and continental. The building itself has a great character and history (im sure it was converted from a family home). We enjoyed it so much we are going back again this year and really looking forward to it. I would also suggest that if you have any special requests then to phone reception, I'm sure they will do all they can to help!

Whilst playing at the Dunhill Links Championships we were desperate for goodquality accommodation that did not break the bank, that is the money we had put into our kitty for a few days away with mates indulging in our favorite past time, some golf, some sightseeing, a nice meal, a few drinks at the bar and a decent nights sleep in a calm and relaxing environment.

We could not have found a better hotel to combine all of our needs than the Sandford Country House hotel, not more than 15 minutes from St Andrews but without all the hype of the overcrowded hotels we had previously contacted.

The multi-national staff at the hotel really made our stay special. The food was exquisit and the bar staff knew their malts from their blends.

We have already booked for next year and look forward to more happy and relaxing days in this lovely 3-star country house hotel and more challenging golf at the many clubs near it.
