“As good as before”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We have stayed here several times since our last review and each time is as good or better than the last. Whether in the summer or at Hogmanay the service is attentive. One of our party has dietary restrictions and the maitre d' personally makes discreet recommendations about what is safe and what could be amended on the menu in consultation with the chef. It is all very discreetly done.

We do enjoy the three day Hogmanay celebrations with really good fun at the Highland games and at the ceildah on New Year's Eve. Excellent food available throughout the Hogemanay break, knowledgable staff (speak with Gavin) with respect to whisky and spirits, bar prices are very reasonable compared to other hotels we have stayed at in the UK and in Canada. Heather and her housekeeping staff work hard at meeting the needs of replenished shortbread tins, coffee-making/tea facilities, ensuring the beds are warmed by "hotties" and ensuring that the teddies and other little stuffed cuddlies that guests bring with them are pampered as well.

A hotel where one is assured of a warm welcome whether it is your first time or a repeat visit.

Thank you for the kind comments.

Perhaps the key thing that is most pleasing to read is that the effort that we put in to finding out the little things that are so important to our guests is so well received. When it comes to dietary requirements, the discreet manner in which we handle them is essential, and I am glad that it works!

This does go to prove that we can, and do go the 'extra mile' to look after our guests - whether they are first-time visitors or repeat clients.

Looking forward to seeing you at the end of the year.

Regards

Stephen

“Nice Hotel......but I wouldn't pay full price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed at the hotel just before Christmas as we had purchased an internet voucher where we paid 50% of the full price for dinner bed and breakfast.

There was supposed to be a function on at the hotel that night which we were told had been cancelled. So the hotel was pretty quiet which we were happy about.

It's a country house hotel outside St Andrews and so not walking distance from the town centre.

In general the hotel decor was very nice although the staircases are starting to look tired with a couple of large score marks on the wallpaper.

Our room was on the top floor and looked as if it had been recently refurbished. It was spacious and very nicely furnished. The bed was also very comfortable but could be a little soft for some people.

Dinner was great. I had a fillet steak form the grill menu which I have to say was excellent. My wife had pasta which was very good as well. The service was also pretty good although there were only 4 other tables occupied.

All in all we had a great stay, however, there is no way I'd pay full price for this. They are approaching 5 star prices and, at that level, I would go somewhere else before coming back here....

It was really good to be able to read such kind and positive comments about the hotel.

We do always work hard to deliver the high levels of comfort, service and food quality which you have clearly enjoyed - and so thank you for the feedback.

With regards the negatives comments, we are in the final stages of refurbishment work (re-opening on 20th January), in which we have completely redecorated the front hall and reception area, but we have also re-carpeted the stairs.

On the issue of the rate, we do have some special rates available from time to time - so if you wanted to sign up to our newsletter, we would let you know when they become available. Alternatively, have a look at the Late Deals page on our website.

With my best regards,

Stephen Owen

“lovely hotel, great service”

We stayed one night in the Turret room in the Rufflets hotel in December 2011. The room was lovely and well-equipped with WIFI, a whirlpool bath and homemade shortbread! We enjoyed a beautiful meal in the restaurant with great service, coffee in the drawing room beside a roaring fire, then a cosy night in comfortable bed (and our very own hot water bottle placed by staff during the 'turn down' service!) Breakfast was very nice. We would return to this hotel due to good location, clean and comfortable rooms and great food/friendly and professional service. Would recommend!

It should perhaps go without saying that all the different things that we do in the hotel are aimed at providing the experience that you have clearly enjoyed - things that we look to do for all our guests.

It is so nice to read that the little touches are all appreciated (and the hottie is always warmly received).

Good food, rooms and location - backed-up with warm friendly service is what we do - and thank you for the kind comments.

We are always working hard to make it even better. In fact we are closed at the moment as we are redecorating the front hall and reception areas so as to make it all even more comfortable - will be unveiled around the 20th January!

Do let me know when you are coming back, and I will see if chef will part with a copy of his special shortbread recipe!

With best wishes,

Stephen

Thank you so much for giving this feedback - I am delighted to hear that you had such a good time at the hotel - albeit a short one.

The chef does work hard to produce excellent menus in the Terrace Restaurant - and the service team love to read when they have done so well.

Even in winter, the grounds and gardens are a real joy and all help to provide a peaceful retreat for that relaxing short-break.

With my best regards,

Stephen

“Wedding to remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

As a party of 8, plus baby and dog, we stayed in the Kinness Lodge for 5 nights which incorporated a nephew's wedding held in the Garden Suite as well as staying on for New Year's Eve celebrations. The hotel itself was an excellent choice for a wedding and reception. The wedding meal was very good and the staff were attentive and welcoming. The Lodge was ideal for our requirements - the 4 en-suite bedrooms were well appointed and much appreciated by our family group. The large, modern lounge with a 50 in. flat screen tv was very comfortable and the kitchen had all mod.cons with an adjoining larder and utility room. Set in lovely grounds it was a peaceful getaway.

So pleased to read that you all had such a great time in Kinness Lodge - it is a really good option for accommodation at Rufflets - both for self-catering breaks, and we also have breakfast inclusive rates available for it as well.

We continue to look to improve the facilities in the Lodge and are glad that you found everything that you needed.

I will pass on your compliments to the team with regards the food and service - we do work hard to make sure that we provide high quality whether it be for a wedding or in the Terrace Restaurant, and I look forward to being able to welcome you back sometime soon.

With best regards
