“Keeping with the rest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Typical Holiday Inn Express with nothing too bad to let it down or raise it above ground too much. Clean and modern. The hotels location is slightly out of town for some (if visiting Edinburgh) but equally, one can get much better rates here which off sets the travel time. The train station is 10 minutes away walking and trains take around 30 minutes to reach Edinburgh Waverley station. The usual breakfast is included as is tea/coffee in room and shower gel. There is a ASDA superstore oposite the hotel for any esentials that may be needed along with a Mcdonalds.

“good budget option, except breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Enjoyed staying at this hotel at Hogmanay.
It's 30-40 min drive from Edinburgh, has parking spaces.
The hotel itself is quite nice and modern, feels actually like it's a descent hotel (not a cheap one). Staff at reception is really friendly and helpful.
What I didn't like and I think it should be addressed by hotel management is breakfast. Ok, let's say I don't mind it's extremely basic (however would add few items on the list), but ladies are really not watching what's going on, dont' refill it on time. So even for basic things like eggs we had to wait for half an hour and later on almost fight with other people :-) (at the end I went to my room and brought my own sandwiches). I used to work in a hotel doing similar job and therefore I found that this is a really awfull service spoiling the image of the hotel/chain.

“Visiting Edinburgh? Read this-”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel a night back in August while I was visiting Edinburgh for the festival.
As Holiday Inn Expresses go, this was an average place. However, I had no problems and wasn't expecting an in-house dinner nor a fancy breakfast.

What I was really looking for was just a place to stay the night. With hotel prices in Edinburgh so high, I found this hotel which is easily within walking distance from the rail station (Dunfirmline Queen Margaret). I was traveling light but even a short taxi ride would still be affordable.

Be aware of the train schedules to/from Waverly- I couldn't stay the night of the Tattoo because ended too late.

“Simply Awful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Stayed here for one night (New Years Eve 2012).
Travelled with a group of friends and decided to stay in Dunfermline as all other Holiday Inn Hotels were full.
In all honesty I didnt expect much as I knew It was an Express, however, a decent nights sleep would have been nice.
Staff were miserable, breakfast was awful, Rooms were tired and the beds are probably the worst I have ever come across in a hotel.
Food is only offered Monday-Friday, However, the McDonalds/Asda right opposite the hotel do come in handy. The hotel bar is open until 11pm but if you ask nicely they will serve you after 11pm (depending on how the night manager feels).

Try to avoid staying here unless absolutely necessary.

Thank you for your comments and I am sorry to hear that we did not meet your standards of expectation. I am concerned to hear about the staff as they are usually a group of very cheerful individuals. I am also surprised to hear that they were miserable it seems genuinely out of character as you will see from previous comments this is not usually the case and I would like to apologise on their behalf

You didn’t explain what was awful about the Breakfast so I am unable to give comment.

Again I appreciate the comment regarding the beds however cannot reply because there is no explanation as to what the exact problem was with the bed. For your information we regularly replace all mattresses within the hotel which is a Holiday Inn Express brand standard.

In regards to the Hotel bar it is open from 12pm – 11pm for non residents but is open to residents only after 11pm, at the Night Managers discretion. We are happy to keep it open provided that levels of noise are comfortable for all guests within the hotel.

“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Visiting friends this was a convebient place to stay overnight. Standard HIE rooms and the breakfast is pretty basic (but included in the price). Staff are helpful and friendly and the hotel is clean and easily accessible. Plenty of free parking.
