Booked this place way in advance to stay during the festival and although it took me a while to understand that the only way you could walk to the entrance of the hostel is not from the main road that I walked up and down thinking to myself I had gone mental.
Super super welcome, the staff are friendly and will store your luggage if you've come before check in. As it was my first hostel, I was concerned, but the section I was in had 4-5 rooms? Shared bathroom, kitchenette, 1 extra toilet - which came in super handy. The sheets looked scary, but it was clean, the rooms really are student dorms. The girls staying in the other rooms were friendly and awesome and even met one of the performers as well. You forget that performer will need a place to stay too.
But one of the best things of all, unbeknownst to me, my partner organised with the staff here and picked up my birthday cake as the cake store didn't deliver. The staff sang happy birthday and a massive bag was presented to me with a boxed birthday cake. It really was nice of them, and I obviously couldn't eat the whole cake so they got some too.
Location really was pretty central in Edinburgh and I didn't think my room was noisy at all during the night. No Tv, but the room was spacious enough and it was a little annoying that the mirror was in the hallway and not in your room but the fact it was a hostel and you can still lock up your own room was awesome. One of the best features.
Great value - I wish it was open longer than just the summer.
