We often come here for a meal on Saturday night but unfortunately on 26 December 2011 we were really let down with the service, the food and the chaos all around us. There did not appear to be any additional staff for the festive season and the regular staff were literally run off their feet. They did try to cope as best they could but were overwhelmed by the sheer numbers coming through the door. Bookings for this event were made some months ago and despite this we heard that there had been an overbooking and we were changed from our original table to a banquette - which is not ideal as it is at the door and you had to shuffle along the seat to get in and out. The first course arrived and the potatoes on one plate were raw. Took some time to find a member of staff to change it. The main course was the carvery and even here where there is normally two people serving only one lone woman was on duty. We were offered a choice of dessert and even here they could not get the difference between custard and brandy sauce. As for getting additional drinks this just was not possible. We did ask for coffee and were advised that our order would be taken one they had got the orders from another two tables. We simply got our bill and left having not spent exactly the happiest of times at Christmas. The Innkeepers Lodge need to get their act in gear and employ more staff and the furnishings could do with a deep clean - which incidentally I have advised them of previously. Who wants to sit on marked chairs you do not know what you are sitting on. Cleanliness, service and the quality of food were a big let down on this occasion.
