“What a find !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My husband and I recently stayed at the Dakota before travelling to Germany for a long weekend. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by very attentive reception staff, who went out of their way to ensure that we enjoyed our stay - we were even offered a small welcome cocktail !!
The bedroom itself was very well laid out with everything you would want - mineral water, large selection of TV channels, large comfortable bed and a powerful shower. The only thing that would have made our stay nicer would have been the addition of robes in the room, although this is only a minor point.
We had dinner in the restaurant which again was of a very high standard, and served by very attentive and friendly staff.
In the morning, to our delight, we were personally taken to the airport by private transfer included in the room rate. We were again picked up on our return (vehicle waiting for us outside as arranged), and whisked back to the hotel - what service !!
I would undoubtedly recommend this hotel to all my friends and would like to thank all staff for a very enjoyable and afordable staff !!

“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed at the Dakota as we needed a base near to the Rossyth base. The hotel was good. Food was good but expensive, breakfast was quite expensive at £12.00 for a very small mediocre cooked breakfast.

Wifi signal was good in the rooms we used, however it was a pain as you had to get a unique password per device per day......

The room was very uncomfortable. The bed was hard. The pillows were harder. The temp was uncomfortably warm. The air con didn't work effectively.

The staff are all however extremely courteous and pleasant.

“Business or personal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I stayed for one night at the Dakota in Edinburgh for business a few months back and was delighted with the place. If you accept that the hotel is located right on the edge of the city then everything else is very good. Free parking is a bonus, if you have ever tried to park in Edinburgh then you will know that parking is a nightmare.
The hotel itself is modern, classy and stylish and the rooms are kitted out to compliment the overall theme. Rooms all have wi-fi, although it can be difficult to get it to work sometimes, but this is the same in most hotels I have stayed in. Rooms have showers and not baths, but a very good shower none the less. The bed was comfy and the noise levels are quiet so you can get a good night sleep.
I had dinner at the restaurant, the curry was fabulous and the atmosphere was inviting, staff were all polite and professional so can recommend it to anyone not wanting to venture to the city centre for a meal.

Overall a very good hotel for business trips to the city and very competitively priced...am thinking of having a trip back here with my wife to have a few days in Edinburgh shopping and if you have your own car, rather than relying on public transport then should have no problems at all.

Room Tip: Main road into Edinburgh is on the west side so stick to the east, although hotel is very good as ke...

“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

As a business traveller this hotel ticks all the boxes. Great sized rooms, very clean, modern with all the mod cons. Food was very nice, good selection of drinks.
Close to the airport and their shuttle service works brilliantly!
Only odd thing is the lighting in most communal areas of the hotel, I'm really tempted to wear a head torch when I check in next time just so that I can see what I'm signing!
Staff at heck in and throughout the bar are very helpful, pleasant and friendly. Breakfast is as good as I've had.

“Impressive service ! Great staff, comfortable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel to attend a wedding nearby, it's not close to Edinburgh centre but was perfect for our needs. We had a lovely room, very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated as was the bathroom, which was in fact a wet room, I'm not keen on these but it was very well equipped. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was really good quality as was breakfast on both mornings. the lounge and public areas were very tastefully decorated . the tole describes itself as boutique - not sure what that means, but it was certainly individual and tasteful. but most of all the staff were professional, courteous and confident in their roles. It was a lovely stay and if you need to be in that part of Edinburgh for onward travel I would recommend it
