Thoroughly enjoyed our stay for a couple of nights in October. Superb breakfast,clean,quiet comfortable room.Ideal place / area to relax after touring Edinburgh's wonderful sights. Lovely to stroll on the promenade in the evening.Mr and Mrs McCool were excellent hosts and helpful with information. The bus into town although very frequent did take 30 mins. No pets ..... fantastic.

We stayed here for a couple of nights in pursuit of Alexander McCall Smith locations and an exhibition at the Museum of Scotland. It really is the best place we have ever stayed and we like it better than the Hilton! A beautiful house, well kept and full of lovely little details , like a painted cornice, flowers everywhere - and 'green' as well. Just brilliant.

My wife and I stayed at Straven in September for three nights. The room was comfortable and clean. The Best breakfast in 4 B and B's in UK, never had better waffles anywhere. The McCools were friendly and helpful. The only complaint that I would have is it takes at least 30 minutes on the bus to get to city centre at what ever time you are traveling by bus.If you want to stay near the water or away from city Straven is a gem.

My wife and I began a 9-day stay in the UK at Straven House for 2 nights. Everything was terrific-- the room, food, Mac and MaryAnn's hospitality and recommendations. The location was great for a total getaway-- off the beaten path enough to feel away, but accessible to the city. We would certainly do it all over again. We worked our way down to London where we spent 3 times as much for significantly less of everything.
