“Not impressed”

Property rented - apartment 3/2, 493 St. James Court
Date - 25th August - 6th September
Scottish Apartments have now changed ownership, now under the title 'Tartan Apartments'.
The following points:

1. We were NOT told that there was completely insufficient space for 4 adults and 2 children. Thankfully my parents-in-law are very flexible people.
2. Practically no storage space for luggage - chaos - absolutely no space - apartment is only big enough for a maximum of 4, NO MORE.

Positive point:

1. Staff are helpful and supplied additional items when required. However, very niaive.

However, when asked for a reimbursement...em, no reply....strangely.....although they did promise in verbal before I left and after handing in the keys......

Great location - however, be warned, very noisy in the summer months, with the Fringe, etc.! Repeatedly had to tell the people downstairs to turn their crappy Scottish music down, i.e. there was a souvenir shop right below us. (Being Scottish and coming from Edinburgh I don't appreciate cheap souvenir shops, selling products from China with some little lad from India trying to explain my Scottish heritage for me)

My overall opinion is that the staff are trying but it's simply not good enough.

The adjacent apartment is 3/1 - nice, go for it, relatives lived there and were very impressed, nice apartment - but not 3/2.

Seems like Tartan/Scottish Apartments have a variable number of apartments of quite a variable standard. They really need to pull their finger out and bring them all up to the same standard.

Sadly, I will not be renting with this company again, very disappointing.

Garry

Room Tip: Flat 3/2 good, avoid 3/1.

“Unfit for use. So much potential wasted”

We stayed here in winter with a young toddler. Storage heaters didn't work & it was Freezing!!! Minus degrees seriously. Heaters looked like a death trap anyway & were falling apart. Strong burning smell from the only one which did work slightly & chucked out a minimal amount of heat. Where a part of the bath tap had broken a huge screw had been jammed in so you could switch it to the shower adapter. This make shift repair protruded out like spear & was highly dangerous if someone slipped getting in & out of the bath. After complaining as we were worried for our child's safety, we were moved to another apartment a few floors up. This was slightly better but still with many things broken or botched. A bedside lamp was plugged in but with no lightbulb! My little daughter could of been electrocuted. I felt these apartments were a death trap in general but especially for those with kids. Stay well clear! Great location but dont be tempted. Worst place I've ever stayed in & I'm a very seasoned traveller having worked for an airline as crew! Unsafe!!

“22 Annandale street? Don't even think about it!”

3 beds squashed into an - admittedly very clean - room. Very flimsy door so didn't feel very safe. Shower fell off the wall, no towel rail or heating in bathroom. The electricity went off in the middle of the night (I know this because at 4.00 am I decided to try and read as the neighbours were so noisy I couldn't sleep) and it did not come on again in the morning. No hot water either so no shower. All ubelievable considering the price.

Have complained but no response.

“Not as described, not even a bad bed sit, do not use.”

The room was advertised as "Luxury Executive Apartment" what it was was a largeish room with 3 beds in it (ok, 4 beds, but two had been pushed together to form a double, despite the beds being different hieghts). There was a good shower. Other equipment included a TV/DVD, a toaster, a microwave and a kettle. Bizzarely some pads were in the cupboard despite there being no hob. There was only the had basin in the bathroom, presumably one was to use that to wash things in.

This was room 5 at 22 Anandale Road
Big worries were the two bare wires hanging from the ceiling, the lack of fire alarm, fire extinguisher, evacuation instructions, damp patches and the fact the the woodwork had been replaced by the windows (single glazed sash) as if there has been a break in. The whole room looked like somebody had started to make it nice but had then given up. Heating was a single storage heater.

Overall a terrible place to stay for the money, just go to the YHA up the road.

“Horrible company, Unfinished and dangerous rooms.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

Went up for my brother's stag do and went to get the keys. Let a huge deposit of £500 and were assured that "unless you knock down one of the walls" it would be refunded at the end of the visit.

Got to the apartment 22 Annandale Street and had 4 rooms when we had paid for 6. Had 7 beds when we paid for 12. There were loose, live wires hanging from the ceiling when we eventually got into the rooms. Hot water was available periodically, not all day. Other guests had keys to our rooms and there were building materials in the rooms. We were given a crate of beers because we were made to wait before getting into the rooms. They provided us with very uncomfortable camp beds which may as well not have been there as they were impossible to sleep on.

When I arrived back home and called Scottish Apartments about the mix up they said that we had already recieved compensation with the crate of beer. I said this want anywhere near enough. ( I have since recieved 100 pound to split between the 12 of us.) Still nowhere near enough.

This trip was a stag do and therefore we were quite loud after hours and we were charged £60 for this, however when discussing this with the manager Callison Eaton, she said the police came and told us to go inside (which was completley not true. And when I said as much to this manager she said "Ah, do you know what....." and then hung up on me. They still refuse to speak me now.

They also had the nerve to charge us £40 for the state of the rooms, when there was no mess left behind. I rang them again (having to explain the problem all over again because the manager refuses to speak to me because I was "swearing and abusive" which is totally untrue. I was told the calls would be recorded for training purposes and have requested the tape to take to Trading standards or BBC Watchdog.) They said they had never seen rooms left in such a state and they had taken photo's as evidence of this. I was told i would recieve them photo's in 3 days. Here we are nearly a month later and still no photo's, Yet they took the £40 within hours of us leaving.
This problem is still yet to be resolved.

Since staying with Scottish Apartments I have looked around and seen that there are several other companies and hotels in the city, which even without staying with them can practically guarentee that every single one of these will provide a better service and (hopefully) fully furnished and finished rooms.

Room Tip: Best way to get the best room is to book with someone else!! This is a terrible company who mess you...
