We have just celebrated our daughters 21st birthday party at the Hudson Hotel. The private function venue was, up until quite recently, a nightclub called Bacaro but it’s no longer open to the public.
We had food in the busy main bar before the party began. It was what I would call decent ‘pub grub’… it was tasty, hot and fresh, and they managed to feed 15ish people all at the same time from a reasonably varied and good priced menu. The waiting staff and the bar staff were very good and very attentive.
We moved downstairs to the nightclub party and everyone had a great time, and again the Hudson staff could not be faulted. We had also been allowed in earlier in the day to decorate the walls etc. The place looked really great and it was clean. There is a well-stocked bar with knowledgeable and friendly staff.
However, we were not overjoyed with the DJ (booked by the hotel… book your own!!). He either did not or chose not to understand much English… only after a lot of requests by various guests did he eventually realise that his own taste in dance music was not what we wanted!! Once he changed the music to suit the tastes of the guests the dance floor filled up, although the party was halfway through by this point.
I would also point out to anyone thinking of booking this venue that there is a £200 deposit returnable only if the hotel makes a certain amount of profit over the bar. We apparently missed our target and therefore lost the deposit… this can make for an expensive party considering there are other venue options which are free if you shop around.
That all aside… I would recommend this venue to friends for it's location and size, the food and drinks are reasonable, the average price for the city centre and the staff were lovely. We had a great time with our family and friends celebrating this milestone birthday and the memories will be treasured for a long time to come.
