“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

My hubby and I stayed here on a rare romantic evening night out! My main requirement was not to stay at a holiday inn/premier inn/travel lodge! At £76 for Bed and Breakfast I wasn't expecting the ritz but was pleasantly surprised. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean, very modern and had everything you could need and more - even lovely cosy bathrobes :)

The bar in the room was very reasonably priced, with free bottled water and only £13 for a good bottle of red. The staff were lovely and friendly and the breakfast was also very very good.

We will definitely stay again, my only two negative points are the lack of fitted sheets on the bed and only 5 channels on the TV (with not brilliant reception). Normally these type of things really tick me off but they really were insignificant compared to the overall experience :)

“The Hudson (Bacaro) as a Party Venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We have just celebrated our daughters 21st birthday party at the Hudson Hotel. The private function venue was, up until quite recently, a nightclub called Bacaro but it’s no longer open to the public.

We had food in the busy main bar before the party began. It was what I would call decent ‘pub grub’… it was tasty, hot and fresh, and they managed to feed 15ish people all at the same time from a reasonably varied and good priced menu. The waiting staff and the bar staff were very good and very attentive.

We moved downstairs to the nightclub party and everyone had a great time, and again the Hudson staff could not be faulted. We had also been allowed in earlier in the day to decorate the walls etc. The place looked really great and it was clean. There is a well-stocked bar with knowledgeable and friendly staff.

However, we were not overjoyed with the DJ (booked by the hotel… book your own!!). He either did not or chose not to understand much English… only after a lot of requests by various guests did he eventually realise that his own taste in dance music was not what we wanted!! Once he changed the music to suit the tastes of the guests the dance floor filled up, although the party was halfway through by this point.

I would also point out to anyone thinking of booking this venue that there is a £200 deposit returnable only if the hotel makes a certain amount of profit over the bar. We apparently missed our target and therefore lost the deposit… this can make for an expensive party considering there are other venue options which are free if you shop around.

That all aside… I would recommend this venue to friends for it's location and size, the food and drinks are reasonable, the average price for the city centre and the staff were lovely. We had a great time with our family and friends celebrating this milestone birthday and the memories will be treasured for a long time to come.

“fading trendy boutique hotel in heart of Edinburgh, friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

friendly welcome and the lady at reception couldn't do enough to help us book a restaurant for our anniversary on such a short notice on a saturday night! room was small and weathered but clean. our room was onlooking the street so quite noisy at night. Location is perfect being so close to Princes Street and a few minutes walk only from Royal Mile. Airlink airport transfer services stops just accross the road from hotel, which is extra convenient for people with heavy luggage not wanting to take a taxi. Bar had great ambience and food. All in all a very convenient city hotel in need of a freshening up.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back as the ones on the street can be quite noisy at night

“Week end at The Hudson”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

Stayed here on Friday and Saturday night at the end of November. The staff were very friendly. We had booked here to attend a family wedding, this hotel being one of the recommended hotels, when we booked they told us that it was under new management and the wedding discount was no longer available.
The rooms and landings are so dark,it was like staying in the black hole. The lighting in the rooms is inadequate, the lighting in the bathrooms is as bad - not light enough for putting on make up.
We had breakfast on one morning only, this is served in the bar and for the money was rather basic.

“Location, location, location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011 via mobile

This hotel ideally suited for Princes st. It is within walking distance of the royal mile (steep hill) very close to the art gallery and general shopping areas.

We found the rooms to be immaculate. When we arrived however we were given our key and when we stepped out the elevator the lights were so low you couldn't see the room numbers on the doors. They were also still making up our room. We dumped our stuff and had a walk to get something to eat before returning to an immaculate, well presented, chic room.

Rooms have free wifi. All the lights are energy saving including the bathroom ones so takes a while before the room is lit. The bed was extremely comfortable. The only downside was that our room overlooked the alleyway and both mornings we were there, the industrial bins were emptied. Very very noisy.

There is a discount in the bar if you are a resident but you need to tell them. We didn't eat in the hotel as there is so much nearby.

Overall, very good value. Will return
