Stayed with Dave & Linda for 3 nights over New Years to celebrate Hogmanay at Edinburgh's famous street party. We were charged a premium price for the triple room with a private bathroom which was to be expected at a busy time like this. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, and was serviced everyday. The room was a bit small with a double and single beds but not tiny and cramped. The bed was comfortable, TV worked well and the room was warm. There was no wireless internet, which is disappointing at this level of price and service. There is a computer downstairs with internet access available only to check emails.
The B&B is situated on a main thoroughfare into the city, which is a double edge sword. On one hand the buses are a few metres away and very regular. On the other hand the road noise can be quite loud (not helped by wet roads), even with the double glazed windows closed. There are shops and restaurants a short walk away.
Dave and Linda were very helpful, even making phone calls on our behalf to help when we hit a problem with the local banks (tip: ensure the branch has sufficient Bank of England notes before making a large withdrawal. The Scottish issued notes, although allegedly legal tender, are not generally welcomed in England). Dave & Linda are also very helpful when it comes to local information.
Breakfast is well cooked, but is only served between 0800-0900hrs, so no sleeping in! A good range of cereals, fresh fruit salad and cooked foods are available, including Black Pudding for those so inclined. I was a little disappointed not to see Haggis on the menu though.
Overall a good stay and served our purposes well. I recommend Glenlivet for people looking for a well serviced B&B.
