“Very nice place to stay”

My wife and I stayed her in May 2008 and I just realized my review did not post. This place is very nice right near the North Sea and right on the bus line. The owner is a very nice woman and is very helpful with providing information on the area. We would stay here again and again. Very good experience.

“Simply Perfect”

What can we say about this Guest House. It is simply perfect!! Spacious, extremely clean, wonderful hosts, excellent b'fast - continental plus a specifically ordered hot b'fast to follow, plenty of towels, rooms large and to die for, fresh flowers and candles everywhere, a 24hour bus stop in front of the door, organised tours from the Guest House, close to the city centre, easy to find, close to the sea, plenty of restaurants and shops close by, and the list just goes on. It would be very difficult to find something wrong with it no matter how fussy you may be. We recommend Abercorn to everyone.

Well done and thanks for a lovely stay,

Vince and Antonia

“Lovely B&B, Highly Recommended”

My girlfriend and I recently spent a few days in Scotland. We stayed at the Abercorn Guest House and very much enjoyed the whole experience. It is perfectly placed, just outside the city where it isn't too busy but only a short bus ride or car journey from the middle of Edinburgh. It was also a pleasant surprise to find such a lovely beach just a two minute walk from the house. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and she couldn't do enough to make us feel comfortable. After making us a pot of tea and letting us settle in she came back to give us a brief explanation of the surrounding area, which places were good to eat and visit and where to catch the bus into the city. The room itself was beautifully furnished and despite it being very cold outside was nice and cosy inside and very warm at night. The breakfast was excellent and there was lots of choice depending on what you wanted. The personal touches and customer service were what made our stay here so nice. This was shown on our first morning when one of us (not me) accidentally dropped the shower head and it snapped. My girlfriend went to tell the owner and apologise and within five minutes, even though they were busy serving breakfast to other guests, had fixed a new shower head which was very much appreciated and totally unexpected. The comfortable and homely feel to the house and the friendly welcoming demeanour of the owners really added a lot to our visit to Scotland and we highly recommend it to all

“Wonderful”

We stayed in the Abercorn for 5 nights in January. In two words it was - Wonderful, Excellent. Very welcoming hosts. Immaculate, beautiful room, large, high ceiling, lovely en-suite. Delicious breakfast with choices to suit everybody. Ideally placed, only a few minutes walk to the promenade, a short journey by car to the city, on a bus route.

“Cramped and cold”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We booked the Abercorn over New Year 2011/2 The cost was £540 for three nights, and reviews were glowing so we were willing to pay for what we thought would be a comfortable and happy experience while connecting with family. We had a dog with us and the Abercorn takes dogs. However, the room was so cramped there wasn't room to put our bags away or things out of the dog's reach. It had two very large windows and a high ceiling so even with shutters the room was cold. I had to sit with my back against a heater (having moved the table), but even then my front was cold. The heating went off over night. We left the next morning without breakfast. To give her credit, the owner agreed to charge us only £100. She informed us that all hotels in Edinburgh overcharge at New Years. So we made a mistake assuming the price would mean comfort.

Room Tip: small front room cold in winter

Hello,Thank you for taking the time to write your review we appriciate your comments. At the time before leaving you could have had a lovely breakfast as offered, and we did say that if you felt too cold we would leave both sets of heating on instead of one, for the remaining duration of your stay, its a difficult one with heating some guests find it too warm so we are sorry you felt cold the temperature did drop, also we wish you had maybe said in the evening you were unhappy with the size of room, you seemed to be delighted with everything on arrival. We also offered to drop the New Year rate for yourselves to 100.00 per evening for the rest of your stay. Many of our return guests request this room, it is an avaerage size for a double room but maybe with the dog and large cage it was cramped for you and as I said to your husband when he let the dog out the room we asked him to put the dog back in,as we do not allow dogs to run around inside the house.Hopefully you were able to find alternative accommodation for the New Year duration, and it didnt spoil your new year too much, kind regards,Angela.
