I found the staff very friendly and the room clean, comfortable and cosy. The tea and coffee was replenished daily as were the towels. The room was newly decorated and had TV and Wi Fi what more do you want for the money! There is a very good bus service to the city centre that was easy to use ,you are also handy for the Royal Yacht Brittania.
I had fun and would go back.

I know it's cheap, but there's a reason, it's S*** !!!

When I arrived I had to ring a telephone number that was taped to the front door, not too much of a problem but also not very friendly !!
But that was just the start of the problems.

1 - I was informed when i arrived that i was sharing a bathroom with 4 other rooms and that the ONLY bathroom was 2 floors above my room, in what i can only assume used to be the Attic which meant when you stood at the toilet meant you hit your head on the ceiling. None of this was stated in any way when i booked the hotel.

2 - The ONLY parking was in the street opposite, again when I booked they said, and I quote "Parking Is available at a local Venue" it didn't say IN THE STREET !!

3 - I was really really annoyed when some other guests checked in at 2.00am on the first night and the manager decided to talk to them at FULL VOLUME in the lobby directly below my room for about 15 minutes which must have woke up the whole hotel it certainly woke me up.

4 - When I went down for breakfast at 8.45 (Breakfast being from 8.00-10.00am) to find all the tables had dirty plates on every table, there was NO Wholewheat bread at all and I had to hunt around the other tables to find some Jam for the Croissants. I was VERY DISSATISFIED with the lack of service in comparison with the extra charge of £5.

5 - As for the room when I did manage to organise the springs in the lumpy mattress so they didn't dig in my back, I did get some sleep, despite the VERY VERY THIN DUVET. Also there was a very nice damp patch on the ceiling of my room and down the wall.

IN CONCLUSSION
DO NOT STAY HERE !!!!!
I know it's cheap but there's a reason it's S*** !!!

(1) I got a room with shared bathroom and toilet, even though it was never indicated to me before I got there.
(2) The floors in that hotel are terribly squeaking and the doors can be closed only if they are shut loudly. It was therefore impossible to sleep, since every guest who entered or had to go to the shared bath had to make so much noise!
(3) The toilet did not flush; absolutely no stream in the shower.
(4) The promise in the website was for a free internet throughout the hotel. There was internet only in the main guesthouse, but not in the second house were I stayed.
(5) The brochure that was placed in my room indicated that breakfast is until 10AM. When I showed up at 9:35 I was told that it is only until 9:30.
(6) I asked to keep my luggage after check-out until 2PM. I was told that they do not provide this service! (They did me a personal favor)
(7) The owner was never to be found and refused to speak with me. The clueless girl who runs the place suggested that she could give me the manager's number so I can try to call her from my own phone.

I knew that in August Edinburgh is far to be cheap so I was not surprised to pay 106£ for a night in a double room in an accomodation quite far from the centre of the city. I spent a week around Scotland and I stayed in 7 different B&Bs and hotels. I've to say that, until the last night spent in Edinburgh, I was really satisfied about all my reservations!
When my brother and I arrived at 5p.m. to check-in, we found that we were supposed to do the "express check-in" by calling a phone number and ask for instruction on how to unlock the door (which is not the easiest thing to manage if you're not an English native speaker) and where to go (considering that my room was not in the same building but in another one called Golden Leaf at number 7).
I've to say that the room was large as the breakfast room in the Thistle Guest House. To be honest it was nice but the first thing I look for is the cleanliness and I've to say that my brother and I had a doubt about the sheets... Not mentioning the "En-suite bathroom"....What amazing surprise! We looked for it in the room but, after a minute, we had to accept the idea that it was not en-suite but somewhere else! The toilet and the shower room were under the stairs and both hadn't a key so, every guest (as it really happend) was able to use them even if they were supposed to be private! Without considering that the shower room is near of the front door so, everyone who comes in, could see you in bathrobe!
The building is old so noises during night and day coming from inside and outside have to be considered as normal.
Last but not least...the breakfast. We arrived at 8.45 and we had the table prepared after 30 minutes. We had to use our tea-cups even for milk & cereals because there were no more cleaned cups and the choise was very unsatisfaying.
Onestly I think that it doesn't worth the money I spent!
