“Fab find of a Guesthouse”

We really enjoyed out 3 night stay at the Kariba. Our room was lovely and clean. The staff were wonderful and helpful...Jackie was especially helpful with all my questions about Edinburgh! The breakfast set us up for the day too. The guesthouse is not right in the center of town, but it is only 15 minutes walk to the castle (good to burn off some of the calories from that big Scottish breakfast!). We will be back!

“Loved Edinburgh but this B&B was such a disappointment”

I was really disappointed with my stay at Kariba. My partner and I were 'greeted' at the door by the landlady in a very bad mood who once found out who we were told us we were a day late for our booking. Once we provided her email confirmation stating we were there on the correct day we were led to a room and made to feel like we were in the wrong. The whole setup seemed unprofessional and we felt pretty unwelcome.

When left in the room we found that numerous lights weren't working, it was cold and the kettle leaked water out all over the surfaces. I thought that for the amount we paid they could have at least checked that bulbs weren't blown.

To top it off, when I went to pay and discuss the room I was told that they had already taken the money for the room from my account as I had provided my details for the deposit. When I looked at the receipt it turned out they had taken the money the day before I was even suppose to arrive. I was far from impressed.

On a plus note it was easy enough to walk into the city centre.

“unexpected!”

a perfect welcome, and a warm goodbye!
Even if we arrived on late friday afternoon, (thank you RyanAir), we were fiendly welcome.
Lovely place, well situated... At first sight it could seem far from center town, but with the advice of the very nice landlady, only 10 minutes walking to go Haymarket station, 20 minutes to go to the castle...
Our room was warm and cosy, with a nice sunrise on the river on saturday morning... Everything was clean, and comfortable, nothing to criticize concerning the bedroom and bathroom. And the "plus": kettle with teabags, coffee, sugar, milk in the bedroom...
The breakfast... huge!! Cereals, bread, yogurts, fruits... the landlady brang us toasts (we didn't ask anything), and asked us if we wanted something cooked from the menu (bacon, beans, sausages, pancakes etc...) but we were eating sugared food. The plum marmelade was delicious (plums from the garden).
Finally, we spent two really good nights. The Landlady was very helpfull and very nice, and prepared us a basket food for sunday morning because of our very early departure (6am)
Really, we did not waste our time and money (and it was not expensive!).
Our last promise: next time we come in Edinburgh, we will stay at the Kariba Guesthouse.

“A perfect experience of Scottish hospitality”

We booked our accomodation at a very last minute, but it turned out to be a a perfect choice. We only had the chance to stay there for the long weekend, however we had a lovely time. We had a spacious room, with vibrant, modern decor and access to the back garden. It was not not an en-suite bedroom, but you could lock the bathroom door from the outside, so our privacy was secured. I was suprised that there was so much choice for the breakfast. Apart from continental buffet, you can order a cooked breakfast, which I found great, as we have been to Scotland before and it is always either or. Nice surprise here. This guest house is full of warmth, cosiness and you can play with the cuddly Paddy and talkative parrot called Charlie. The owners were more than happy to provide us with useful tips on where to go, what to do, where to dine out. Their knowledge of the city is profound and they went an extra mile to make our stay as pleasant and interesting as possible. I was delighted and really sad when it was time to say good bye. But will definately come back, for longer this time!See you later Agnes&Michael

“Perfect for short stays in Edinburgh!”

We stayed 3 nights in Edinburgh and stayed at the Kariba on a friend's recommendation. We stayed in a clean, nice room with modern decor, which was perfect for our short stay. Breakfast was yummy with plenty choices. Offers parking and very close to city center (bus stop is outside for lazy ones!) Staff were helpful and gave us plenty of tips to get the most out of our short break in such a lovely city.
