“simple, small room but excellent for central location and value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

We stayed here during the Fringe as accommodation was ridiculously expensive! The rooms were clean and like any hostel you have to make your own beds etc. The room we stayed in was tiny, had dated furnishings and we had to share a bathroom (ensuite rooms being booked out already) but if you're only after a bed for the night then this hostel is perfect. Its central location and good value for money was brilliant.

Room Tip: If you're booking around the Fringe.... book in advance! Or you'll end up like my husband a...

“No frills central accomodation in Edinburgh”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

This isn't really a hostel - its student accomodation that is rented out in the holiday period. So - you get a private bedroom (single bed, really rather comfy), but you share toilet/shower/kitchen facilities.

I've stayed here a couple of times when i want to be in central edinburgh for an early departure, and its fine. Not flash, not the best value ever, but the beds are comfy, you get clean sheets and a towel, and there is even secure cycle storage - not sure if you can park your car there, tho there is a carpark.

One thing you should be aware of - the stairs! Lots of them, and no lifts. So if you've got lots of luggage, or an injury/disability that limits your stair climbing ability, this place is not for you. That said, if that's the case then maybe edinburgh isn't for you!

“Make sure you confirm your booking”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

I had booked 3 rooms at this hostel. I wasn't expecting much in terms of facilities/amenities/conditions. But I was expecting that if I had booked 3 rooms, I get 3 rooms.

As it turned out, they had only reserved 1 room. I heard them talking between themselves and 'someone' hadn't scrolled down when the reservation email came in, so they only saw the first room.

They then tried to explain it to me by saying that there was a "hostname translation problem and so the systems didn't receive all the information." You never say this to a programmer. Ever. Just admit you made a mistake, don't try technical jargon if you don't fully understand it. I cringed and shuddered and didn't know whether to call him out on it or not.

However, I kept quiet because after an hour of waiting and searching, we were given two normal rooms and one room without beds. No charge for the third one.

The good points? The staff did their best considering the circumstances. They should have been more careful when getting the reservation but they did do the best they could. And they were nice.

My point is, make sure you confirm the booking in advance.

The location is very good, it's just a 3 minute walk from the main streets and shopping/eating areas.

Also, the shared bathrooms are clean. The rooms are clean too. It's a good place to stay, just that I had a bad experience which could have been avoided, which I am reflecting here.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Stayed at the Euro Hostel for a weekend during the Edinburgh Fringe. Basic accomodation but clean, use of shared kitchen was great. Brilliant central location and good value during the Fringe. Would definately stay here again.

“Perfect location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

The location is perfect, close to the centre and to the pubs, it is possible to go walking everywere. The room window was in a closed courtyard so it was quiet. Furthermore, you can use the shared kitchen. Considering the hotel prizes in Edinburgh, this place is perfect by its prize and location, but remembering that it is a hostel (not a hotel), so the quality is appropiate to it (you have to do your own bed and this kind of stuff). The bathrooms are not very clean, and the toilet paper sometimes was finished. We also missed a tv room or games on the common area of the appartment (tipical of hostels). Some rooms to cowgate street could be noisy. I think it does not have disabled access.
