“An excellent place to stay - thoroughly recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2011

We arrived without booking, were made to feel very welcome, and greeted with a smile. The room was excellent, well appointed, and very clean and comfortable. When we travel to Edinburgh again, we would certainly stay at the Glenallan, and would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family.

Room Tip: Has an off street parking area

“whole new meaning for most important meal of the day”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

Just back from Edinborough and we stayed in the Glenallen for 2 nights (its too long a story) but anyway I would agree with most of the other travellers who stayed there. Rooms were nice on this occasion and in fairness we were put up at short notice having been given the runaround by another hotel group. Scottish breakfast was charming to say the least without the meat although it was advertised. A smile costs nothing and a simple hello you are welcome and goodbye we hope you enjoyed your stay wouldn't go amiss either and inform people of your style or lack of it of cooking either.

“So nice place, good adress!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2009

Unlike the other reviews we found this place very nice! The rooms are spacious, well decorated beautiful set, bathrooms renovated, the house prepared breakfast, warm welcome, the owners friendly, smiling and ready to give all possible services, the location off, even though in the neighborhood all beds years breakfasts, which allows for quiet nights and relaxing, and the price honest for services. We warmly recommend this establishment.

“Don't stay here!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2009

Although the location is good, and the house clean, the staff are lazy and rude and clearly do not wish to have guests in their guest house. They just want to take your money and do nothing!! first of all they tried to over charge us as we'd paid a deposit - they tried to charge us the whole amount. The room was not ready when we arrived with no loo roll, or tea and coffee. We were informed that breakfast was extra at £6.50 pp per day - the first guest house I have ever stayed in where bed and breakfast does not mean just that. They never made our room up until i asked them to. So upon returning at 4 or 5pm each day the room was as we'd left it. In summary the service was non existent and i would not recommend this guest house.

“Disgraceful”

We booked two rooms for 2 nights, on arrival was told a leak so couldnt stay there they put us into one of their other guesthouses which was dirty with only 1 bathroom for 13 guests, breakfast was disgusting stale toast and cheap muesli
they didnt answer phone for pick up, they moved us again the next day to another hostel which was smaller and squeezed four of us into a double room by adding stretchers and claiming that is 4 beds plus the room wasnt ready till 7pm that night when we had booked for 2 nights and had to move our own stuff between the houses as they were too busy to give us a ride although night before said they would pick us up anytime
the second morning they kept changing the time we had to go to breakfast,
the rooms smelt and our shower door was broken,
overall horrible service they were not local and didnt know anything DONT STAY HERE or at Carlton House!
