“Excellent out of town base”

I stayed in Corstorphine House over the August Bank Holiday 2011 and enjoyed a very comfortable and pleasant stay.

The hotel consists of two large Victorian Gothic town houses and boasts a large number of extremely large family rooms.

Corstorphine house is located about 4 miles from the centre of town and as such is ideally located if you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, that said the hotel is close to a number of local bars and excellent restaurants.

If you do want to head into the City, there’s a regular bus service just outside the door, and South Gyle Station (nine minutes to Waverley) is only ten minute’s walk away.

Would I stay again? Most definitely.

As a final note, for any guitarists reading this – there’s one of the UK’s best guitar shops right across the street – what could be better!!!

“Disgraceful accommodation at Westhaven House”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

HORRIFIC!!!
The brochure states; "Superior Self-Catering at an Affordable Price"

Dirty bed with hair still on the pillow
Filthy curtains that have NEVER been cleaned.
Kitchen was disgusting.
Wallpaper and ceiling covering falling off
The general state of accommodation made a student house look clean and tidy.

I was 'put' in the apartment called Westhaven as the main B&B was full.
I paid upfront to stay in this hellhole, so I am stuck here because the Edinburgh Festival is on and there is nothing anywhere in the city.
This is a horrible horrible place. It is a house on the main road next to the Edinburgh Zoo. It is THE major road in and out of Edi. The traffic is 24/7.
There are a few people 'living' here. One of which introduced himself to me in his pants!
The kitchen was a mess with dirty plates, food still on the table, and beer bottle all around the place.

I booked a B&B, not a room in a shared house.

Please please please do not give these people your money if offered 'The Apartment'.

Go ANYWHERE but here!

We arrived at the Hotel in evening of Friday 15th July 2011 and was given a very warm welcome by the Asian Gentleman who has been there for juyst over two years.
He booked us in very quickly and showed us to our Ground floor Family Room which was very spaciouse and bright, Everything was very clean and tidy in the room and a 32" HD Ready TV was on the wall . The breakfast was very nice appart from having to make your own toast in a machine which burned the bread nearly every time it was used.
My wife and I thiought it so nice a place that we will be booking it again on our next visit to Edinburgh.

“Not worth the money”

My husband and I stayed here on 26th June 2011 for one night. After being away the previous 2 nights in the Highlands staying in a youth hostel I was looking forward to the comforts I am normally afforded in a hotel. Unfortunately this hotel did not provide me with any of those comforts. Upon arrival we had to call the hotel to ask them to let us in, a minor inconvience. The member of staff who welcomed us was very pleasant. Our room was in the attick and was not at all spacious. It was very tired and dingy looking and I did not feel like it was clean. When I lay down on the bed I noticed a hole in the headboard and hairs on the sheets. When I used the towels in the bathroom I noticed they had holes in them. The carpet was quite disgusting and threadbare, there was a rug over the most threadbare part to try and hide it. I was not comfortable walking in the room in bare feet. The bathroom seemed clean enough but for a hotel I would expect it to be cleaner. The shower was very small and the shower head hit me in the face as it did not stay in the holder properly. I also noticed dirty stains on the wall next to the mirror and the bin. I felt like I had to be fully clothed when going to bed as I did not want to touch the bedsheets which also had yellow stains on them. We ended up staying out really late as we did not want to come back to the hotel. In the morning we were served a full breakfast which was ok, we have had better but it was probably the best part about the stay. We had decided we were going to voice our concerns upon checking out, however we were never given the chance. At £120 per night this was a total rip off. It also states there is ample parking, this is not true and we had to park on the street.

“handy plae to stay”

Stayed overnight , whilst visiting son . This is more like a guest house than a hotel . Room was very large andclean with an quirky seletion of furniture . They need to get rid of all the odd tables / dark cupboards and notices on the walls - too tacky !Bed had nice white sheets but odd flowery pillow cases ! Only a small thing but would have been better to have simple white bedlinen and duvet .( i sound like the hotel inspector !!!)
Breakfast room was bright and cheery but very cramped . Good breakfast ... and lots to choose from . Staff very pleasant but nobody around to check out with , had to ring bell alot .Easy to get bus into Edinburgh from outside hotel , took 15 mins . Paid £59 for 2 people for 1 night , so good value so close to Edinburgh . .
