“Extremely friendly hotel...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

On early arrival we got a free upgrade from the four poster room to the apartment suite. The initial good experience continued throughout the stay - which was pretty much faultless.

The reception were extremely friendly, helpful while being laid back and welcoming.

The apartment suite itself is probably worth the extra in hindsight as you can come and go without going through reception - you get keys to the front door which adjoins the main hotel. The apartment has everything you would need for a weekend (or longer stay) if you wanted to do some self-catering, which we didn't.

Also, if you're staying over at the weekend the street has free car parking Saturday/Sunday which is a massive bonus in Edinburgh.

It is pretty hard to find any faults with our stay, but I think if you were over 6 foot you may find the bed a little on the small side, but that didn't trouble us.

All in all, this hotel was a great find. Clean, very well staffed, decent breakfasts and friendly. And very competitively priced.

I would stay again without hesitation.

“Another excellent dog friendly venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We were initially disappointed when we were told that the hotel did not accept dogs but were very pleasantly suprised to be offered the apartment in Brandon Street. The apartment is normally let for two nights but was kindly offered for our one night stay - they even changed the website so we could book on line. The apartment is spacious with high ceilings and period features with two bedrooms, small kitchen and modern bathroom with hotel quality fittings. Comfy sofas offer plenty of space to relax.
Excellent location as on a busy bus route yet only 15 mins walk from
Princes Street with a good selection of Local shops and restaurants.

“Warm, friendly, close to city centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

It might have been freezing outside but it was very warm inside! Very friendly, family run hotel only a mile down the hill from George Street in the centre of Edinburgh. If you are looking for a central place, that is good value for money, clean and well-looked after I would recommend the Inverleith.
Free on-street parking on the weekend too - a real bonus.

Also a great pub 2 mins walk - The Orchard.

“Not as good as previous visits”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Having stayed here (quite happily) on several occasions, this visit was disappointing in a number of ways. The room was a good size; the bed very comfortable but...the bathroom was tiny - I mean tiny with no room to towel yourself properly and nowhere to put washbag or any of its contents. I stayed for two nights and on the second day the bed wasn't made; the towels were not replaced nor the tea/coffee replenished. Indeed all that was done was cups washed. I also noticed that some of the paintwork in the bedroom by the bathroom door was grubby with dirty marks which would have yielded to a damp cloth.
Staff were friendly, bar not badly priced but overall this visit wasn't my favourite.

Thank you for returning to us as a regular guest. From your comments I can see that you must have booked our small double room on this one occassion, as the standard doubles would not have been available. However this smaller budget double is priced accordingly. It seems a little strange that you say there was no where for toiletries as all ensuites have a shelf. Unfortunately it looks like our chambermaid must have missed your room number from her list. I see that you stayed in late November, Please may I offer our apologies, but I think what has happened was that a new chambermaid was being trained and unfortunately she turned out not to be up to our normal standards and suffice to say we have had to let her go.
I am pleased we now have a full team of excellent staff again and standards are again as they should be. However our reception is manned and we would have been more than happy to rectify the situation at the time make up the bed and give you all the necessary items.

We are pleased that you did not let this one occasion put you off and that you have again returned to stay with us regularly. We are glad that you make use of our small bar and found the staff very helpful and friendly.

“"Cosy, Victorian Hideaway"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

We had booked four nights in this friendly hotel, in a four-poster room, away from the bustle of the city and upon arrival were greeted by the owner who informed us of the upgrade to their four-poster studio apartment with it's own private entrance. The service throughout our stay was outstanding but also discreet. We would gladly recommend this small hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
