“Bed Bugs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We booked six rooms in this guest house to visit the tattoo. There were bed bugs in room 2, we even brought some home in our hair and suitcases. The family room (No. 10) had a very dirty kitchen, we had to keep the door closed as the smell was unbearable. The baths were extremely dirty and stained (imagine the shower curtains). Do not stay, its unhealthy.

Room Tip: Do not go there.

Bedbugs in room Nr.7!!! Many of them!
The location is fairly central, but it's not enough to compensate for the dirtiness and bedbugs.

“Never Again !!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

My wife and myself had booked 2 nights here to visit the tattoo, we were given a warm welcome, from the host, who also provides a reasonable breakfast. but unfortuanetly that is where it stops. On being shown the room, there was dirty laundry outside the bedroom, on entering the bedroom, it was very small, about 2 metres wide, with the bed stuck in the middle of the room. On further inspection of the room it was not clean, although the bedding was despite having holes in the sheet, the mattress was very uncomfortable, the nights sleep was ruined by feeling every spring, perhaps with the possibility of bugs in the bed, as we did itch all night as well. The bathroom was filthy, with mould around the shower, bath and sink, the bath actually had a hole in it, the toilet seat was loose and felt unsafe when sat on, I could not just pluck up courage to have a bath or shower during my stay. Further to that there was no privacy in the bathroom, apart from closing some wooden shutters. Never mind we sat on the old worn out chairs in the room, whoops one collapsed, tried to watch the TV, but could not get that to work. The price we paid for this room, I thought was disgusting at £79 per night, therefore would NEVER consider staying here again.

“Bed bugs and bites”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

Do not stay unless you want to itch for weeks. I have travelled to over 25 countries and the bites exceed 60!! They were friendly, but I am not sure how it can be so bad!

“Acorn Lodge redeemed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2011

We are a newlywed couple from London who stayed for two days at this establishment and feel compelled to say that we experienced NO problems whatsoever. All was satisfactory for our two day stay there... and furthermore, credos to Allan for kindly providing complimentary flowers and champagne in recognition of our marriage, thank you kind sir for your generousity and tact for selecting the appropriate room on our behalf, as well as the provision of clean artifacts and environment. One thing however is that the signal for mobile phones/broadband is poor and not the responsibility of the establishment.
