“Ok for what we paid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

we decided at the last minute to go through to Edinburgh and got a family room at the Northumberland for £83 for 2 nights bed & breakfast (continental) the room was ok but we thought there was going to be a bar and entertainment but the bar was all in darkness on the friday and a function on in the saturday, there was a little bit of noise as the guests left the party but nothing too loud..the noise was worse from 2 females staying in the room next to us as they arrived back to the hotel around 3.30am and chatted as they went along the corridor to their room.breakfast was fine choice of cornflakes, crunchy nut and fruit and fibre, there was also plenty of bread left out for you to make your own toast ,with butter ,jam and marmalade,3 urns with coffee and tea and fruit yoghurts and jugs of orange and apple juice .Staff were very friendly and the facilities were ok for what we paid for.If we got the same deal again and there was entertainment we would probably use the hotel again.

“Don't stay here ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

This hotel is terrible. The service was indifferent, the maids did not complete any of their jobs, and the complimentary breakfast was non existent. The manager, when confronted by me about simple things such as new towels etc did not care.

“A Perfectly Good Budget Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

Stayed overnight as we were in Edinburgh for a family get-together. Friendly welcome from Staff. Room was what can be expected for the price. Clean, good double and single bed. More than enough towels. Coffee / tea making facilities. Flat screen TV. Good heating. Ensuite bathroom and shower was fine. Continental breakfast was varied with selection of cereals, fruit, yogurts, fruit juices, coffee, tea, toast etc. and was included in price of room. Spent some time chatting to lady member of Staff who was very pleasant. A bit out of the Centre of Edinburgh, but again this is reflected in price of room. However, easy access to city centre by bus or taxi. Private off-road car park - no additional charge. Really - a perfectly good budget hotel!

“Perfectly acceptable for the price I paid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

I booked on hostelbookers.com where this hotel has a 76% positive review, and was worried to find such bad reviews on tripadvisor. However, on arrival, service was pleasant and efficient, the room and its ensuite were clean and presentable. Sheets and towels were clean and entirely sufficient. The bed was very comfortable, the shower had decent water pressure, and the television received full freeview service. The room was not cleaned during our stay, but this was not particularly long, and we were offered new towels, and refills of tea and coffee and of toilet roll each morning. The location was good, only a 15 minute bus ride out of the centre of town, and the buses were frequent and ran late at night, even on a Sunday. I would probably have been less happy had I paid the standard tariff they offer, which was advertised in the hotel as £70 per night for a double. Since I only paid £150 for 4 nights, the hotel was of a perfectly adequate standard, and I would return with no qualms for a decent budget stay.

“Shocking!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Difficult to know where to start (too much to list)
All I will say is its worth going somewhere else and pay an extra £10 - £15 per night and enjoy a proper hotel with up to date facilities without grubby bathrooms...
Avoid....avoid....avoid...
