“Can't fault this at the price.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I got this room for a Saturday night in Edinburgh for only 15 pounds. Typical travelodge so luxurious? no, but clean, basic and does the job? yes. I chose this travelodge because of the parking and although we arrived too early to check in the guy behind the desk had no qualms about giving us the ticket to get the discounted parking so we were able to leave the car and walk the 10 minute walk into town to do the touristy things before returning at 5.30pm to check in.

“Below standard of other Travelodge's”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Decided to book here as I was able to bag an incredible deal via the Travelodge website for £29.00 per room, per night! The hotel is a 15 - 20 minute walk from Prince's Street and it is a nice and pleasant walk so no need for taxis really as we walked back after a long and boozy night out even! But anyway... so the hotel's location is good! The rooms... well, that's where the let-down starts! Having stayed at quite a few Travelodge's in the past, I know that there are good ones and not so good ones. Unfortunately, this location belongs to the latter category.

Room was dingy and cold with only a tiny electric storage heater by the window. Extremely drafty and the roller-blind did not block out any light and made the room look even worse! The room was very bare looking as it was quite large and the sofa that should have been there had been removed. Bed-side tables and light switches were too far away from the bed and out of reach as the bed that should have been there had been replaced with a smaller one.

Bathroom was tired and the shower knackered with harsh lighting and cracked tiles. Nowhere to hang up towels except above the bathtub!

Would not have been happy at all if I had paid the full price for the room which can be somewhere in the region of £80.00 per night!!!!

Parking available but very limited and awkward to reach as you have to go down a steep ramp off the main road, around the hotel and to the back. Parking charged at a reasonable enough rate for being so close to the centre of Edinburgh.

Room Tip: To brighten up things ask for a room overlooking the stream!

“Terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We have used budget hotels before but this went down to a new level. Our room resembled a police cell..there was a small bed, but no bedside tables, a small desk like table and a plastic chair and the provision for the storage of clothes was a rail on the wall. We did refer to it as 'cell block H' and did laugh in the knowledge that we wouldn't be spedning much time in it anyway, although coming back to it after a day/night out filled me with dread.
The shower was cold the following morning and there was only one socket that worked and that was away from the only mirror. At breakfast we waited for plates to arrive, then glasses for juice (most people just used mugs) I managed to get bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs with frozen bread to go in the toaster although my huband wasn't as lucky - he was advised they had run out of sauages completey! My advice is go elsewhere, we'd previously stayed at a Premier Inn which was really busy and served an excellent breakfast.

“Very basic, be careful if wanting to check in before 3pm..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This is a very basic hotel but it does have some redeeming features. It is very well situated, behind the hotel is a picturesque stream with a walkway. It is about an 8 minute walk to the centre past beautiful Edinburgh houses and churches. At the hotel there is a small adequate bar and free WiFi.
Now the downside........
Upon arriving at 2pm we were told that it was not possible to check into our room until 3pm. Ok, fair enough, but on enquiring whether we could leave our bags at the hotel until then, we were told there is no facility for this, and there would be an additional charge of £10 to check in early as the room was actually ready. I felt conned, but had to pay up.
I was in a twin room which is very basic, but it is after all a budget hotel. The beds were very narrow and not very comfortable and the blankets would not be sufficient for some people, but apparently rthere were more available from reception.
The water was also cold when trying to take a morning shower, but the hotel was very busy so this may have been unusual.
All in all, it probably represents fair value if you can get the right price, but there are better budget hotels in Edinburgh
