I don't agree with the other review. This cute B&B is no resort but it is a good value. It isn't the Hilton but I felt safe and clean staying there. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was fantastic. I was very pleased with my stay and would love to go back there again. Portobello is a great area, and a short bus ride away from the City Centre. If you don't need to live in the lap of luxury and are looking for a safe, clean, and affordable place to stay, I would definitely recommend staying here.

“Harvest Guest House, Portobello, Edinburgh”

Debited our travelling partners credit card £100 when they booked over the phone, and insisted that we too paid in advance on our arrival, another £100. You live and learn.
When we saw the rooms they were appalling, they were grubby and cramped, the shared bathroom and toilet was also truly appalling, and we had to put up with hissing and banging water pipes all night. It was necessary to buy some earplugs for our second night, just to get a little sleep.
It was too late for us, but there are many other B&B's locally and they all look much better from the outside. Try one of them first, or just sleep on the beach.
Have fun, Edinburgh is a great place to visit, and Portobello is a good place other than the Harvest Guest house.
