“Great Stay, Good Location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at the Salisbury Hotel for one night whilst choosing furniture at IKEA, it is the ideal location for this as it is very easy to get to IKEA from and we walked to the Castle the following day. Reception staff were excellent and I would highly recommend a stay there. Room was a great size, nice decor and finishing touches. FAB!

“Perfect Visit”

We booked a one week stay at the Salisbury Hotel over Hogmanay (the Scottish New Year celebration) because of its proximity to our son's flat in Newington. The hotel was perfect for us. We chose a four-poster room in case other family members joined us. They didn't, and we lavished in the spacious, high-ceilinged, well-appointed room (with decorative fireplace and handsome mirrors). The zero-edge shower took some getting used to, but the deep bath was excellent for luxuriating.
A continental breakfast buffet was served each morning just a few stairsteps away in space shared with the separately owned and operated Cafe Cassis. The buffet was excellent. We also dined in the (tiny) restaurant one evening, and it was superb (Reviewed elsewhere).
Staff was friendly and most accommodating to our every need, which included organizing taxis and aiding our late-day arrival and early-morning departure. We were sent on our way with a breakfast basket that included juice, flavored yogurt, fruit, croissants and granola bars.
The hotel is just off a main street handy to ATMs, grocers, neighborhood pubs and restaurants, and wonderful bus service to the City Center. We chose to travel by taxi, and cabs were very available at all times of day. The property is child-friendly, with play structures adjoining the back gardens. Holyrood Park is a short walk away for those who want to stretch their legs, or climb to the summit of Arthur's Seat or the Salisbury Crags, two imposing topographical features of the city.
The hotel's rates for the special period of our visit were not cheap, but represented goodvalue in my opinion. I would not hesitate to book another visit to this well-run establishment.

“Enjoyable stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed at the Salisbury for 3 nights over New Year. The hotel is situated approximately 1 mile from the Royal Mile and therefore easily reachable on foot from the train station. If you prefer (or if it’s raining!), there are plenty of buses available that pass by the end of the road. The hotel doesn’t have a big sign and it could possibly be missed if driving by – look out for the more noticeable sign ‘Café Cassis’, the name of the restaurant located in the hotel basement. There were plenty of convenient stores, pubs and restaurants nearby, which was great.

The staff were polite throughout and we were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed with a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine to help kick off the celebrations. Our room was located on the first floor and overlooked the front of the hotel. There was free wifi available and a selection of complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits etc., which was a nice touch. The room was a decent size although the en-suite was small and it had a ‘cupboard’ sliding door rather than a door with a lock. I would recommend asking for a room that overlooks the back of the hotel as the traffic could easily be heard from our room.

The décor of the hotel reception and our room had a 4 star feel to it although I was slightly disappointed with the standard of housekeeping in our room. There was thick dust on the corners of the windowsill seat and in the bathroom below the shower door. The carpet in the bedroom could also have been hoovered more thoroughly as I noticed dust and what looked like crumbs on my socks after walking around without shoes on. On a positive note, the bed and covers felt clean and fresh.

We slept reasonably well throughout the stay although we were wakened early on a daily basis due to hearing doors slamming shut. This is hard to avoid given the doors are fairly heavy and have springs designed to help them close shut. However, sometimes guests can forget about others being in such close proximity so I would recommend that the hotel puts up a sign in the bedrooms reminding everyone to try and close the doors as quietly as possible.

The continental breakfast consisted of a good selection of cereals, fruits, croissants, yoghurts, juices etc. and it couldn’t be faulted. There were cooked items available at a small charge although we didn’t opt for this.

Overall, I would stay here again.

Room Tip: I would recommend asking for a room that overlooks the back of the hotel as the traffic could easily...

“A fantastic stay at the Salisbury Hotel for our Hogmanay celebrations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Our superior double room that we stayed in was very spacious. On arrival we received a complimentary bottle of cava and the suite also offered excellent tea/coffee making facilities. The room was well decorated with a contemporary feel including a 22 inch Samsung LCD TV with freeview channels, ironing board, hair dryer and ipod docking station. We were very suprised that the bathroom included a wetroom, this was an added luxury that included Duck Island toiletries that made our stay even more pleasurable. Staff were extremely helpful assisting us with their local knowledge of the area as well as doing everything they can to make our stay more enjoyable. We would highly urge all to visit the hotel restaurant Cafe Cassis which offered some of the best food we ate during our stay in Edingburgh. The french cuisine on offer is extremely good and caters for all diets and the prices are very reasonable too. All in all a fantastic stay and we will not hesitate returning to the Salisbury Hotel if we should ever come to Edinburgh again.

“Brilliant! Well worth the money.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

The staff are very, very helpful. Rooms comfortable and offer a good base to come back to. Breakfast good with a good continental choice. A friendly and 'homely' feel to the hotel. You get the feeling that the owners put a great deal of thought and care into the comfort of their guests. The house keeping was super and all those little extras were taken care of. Both the guys on reception should be commended for their friendliness and help. If ever we are in this fab city again we would certainly think about staying in the Salisbury again.
