“miserable”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

one of the worst hotels u can come across it was a nightmare,,only when i checked in i realised what a terrible mistake,,the entrance to the room itself started on a bad note,,it was like walking in to a dingy dark place like a third class lodge,,the room was in shamble..the toilets was just full of filth ,cracks in the wall and the plasters peeled..a/c was not in proper condition..overall it was a disastorous stay

“Decent hotel in the West End”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

Spacious rooms and helpful staff was the best part of staying here. We lacked hot water and towels in our room when we arrived, but this was fixed quickly. For other requests, the staff was also very welcoming. Our room was very comfortable and clean, with one strange exception: a dirty couch with lots of stains, very out of touch with the rest of the surroundings.

The hotel is very close to the Haymarket stop if you're coming from the airport, but a little bit of a walk from the Old Town. Not a bad place to stay for a rugby weekend (it's right in the middle between city centre and Murrayfield), and I wouldn't mind staying here again if that was the purpose of the trip. But for first-timers to Edinburgh, looking for all the traditional sights, I would perhaps suggest something a little bit closer to the centre.

“Should have stayed closed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2010

On arrival we were informed the hotel had been closed due to lack of clientele and the bad weather therefore they moved us up to a higher floor as the other floors were too cold. The room was very cold and took a whole night to warm up - probably explained the large damp patch on the ceiling. Very basic facilities, bathroom was also damp. The most surprising element was the breakfast - continental! No porridge or any option of a hot breakfast. The croissants were not fresh and the ham and cheese plastic and prepacked. This was very disappointing as previous trips to Scotland have always guaranteed a hearty breakfast. If the hotel was closed as they advised, I wish they had contacted me and I would of happily found somewhere else. The location was good but definately not value for money we bought breakfast from a local cafe for the next 2 days.

“The great hotel!!! Enjoyed our stay veru much!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

The hotel is located in very nice place near St.Mary's Cathedral and is close to the very central streets. It ttok us not more than 15-20 minutes to reach Edinburgh Castle and other attractions of the city. The hotel itself is charming with friendly staff and very nice rooms. I have very warm memories from our stay there. Would recommend to everyone!

“Great hotel - excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

Stayed here with my boyfriend for total of 4 nights on our holiday. Hotel was easy to find, only a few minute walk from the airlink bus stop. I found the staff welcoming and friendly without being over the top. First night we were given a nice spacious room with a garden view. After touring Scotland for few days we returned and were given even bigger and nicer room, no view but a lovely big bathroom. Hotel itself was very quiet, there is a bar but during our stay didn't see anybody in it. However u can find restaurants and pubs only a short walk away and city attractions & shopping in easy walking distance (about 15min). Compering to other hotels in Edinburgh I found the rates reasonable. Would definitely stay here again when going back to Edinburgh.
