“Wonderful!”

My boyfriend and I had the good fortune to stay at 7 Danube Street for 3 nights in early May. Fiona and Colin were excellent hosts. Colin greeted us by name upon arrival. The home itself was beautiful and the neighborhood was fabulous. We had booked the room with the four poster bed and a view of the garden which was very nice. We found little extras each day such as a few fresh flowers and mineral water. The breakfasts were incredible! The best we had on our entire trip. We had eggs and bacon and sausage and mushrooms and tomatos and fresh fruit and yogurt and oat cakes and cereal and coffee, etc..... The dining room where breakfast is served was lovely and very large with a fire in the fireplace everyday. The silverware was real polished silver. Fiona was kind enough to have a printed weather forcast on the table to help us plan our day. The accomodation is about a 10-15 minute walk to the main part of town. It was a little chilly during our stay so we purchased daily bus passes for 2 pounds 30 (about $4 US) and took the #42 bus which took us right into town and the castle, etc. Extremely easy. Colin had also printed up a laminated list of some of the recommended restaurants in the area and all were excellent. Their 2 dogs, Doris and Georgie were also very sweet and made us feel very welcome! I must second what another reviewer had to say--GIVE THIS B&B YOUR BUSINESS!

“A lovely B&B”

We had a lovely time at 7 Danube Street even though it was only a brief visit. I had corresponded for some time before out booking with Fiona, and she is a wonderful correspondent; unfortunately, she was on holiday with her daughter when we were there, and I did not get to meet her. Her husband Colin, however, filled in admirably, and the rooms are very pleasant, although the single room is quite small by any standards with which we Americans are familiar. The location is convenient for downtown, although we found a few unscrupulous cabbies who drove us around far more than the distance between the spots would justify based on clearly marked maps. Edinburgh is a fascinating city, and I wish we had had longer to explore and also to relax more at 7 Danube Street. I think this is a very good choice for the price and the close-in location, although it is a bit of a wrangle getting the luggage up and down the stairs. If you like chocolate, be sure to stop in at Plaisir du Chocolate on Canongate just up from Holyrood Palace and have their hot chocolate . . . it is beyond delicious. Give this charming B&B your travel business!

My husband and two children and I recently stayed at this very lovely Bed and Breakfast. We had two rooms, each furnished beautifully. The beds were amazingly comfortable. Breakfast was served in a large, grand dining room, which made us feel very pampered. Sites in the Old City are about a 15 minute walk away, through the beautiful, Georgian-styled architecture, of the New City. I highly recommend 7 Danube Street.

“What a find!”

We decided on Edinburgh as our destination for a rare weekend break on our own away from work and children and chose 7 Danube Street as our weekend base. We looked at several other hotels featured in Tripadvisor in Edinburgh such as The Balmoral and The Scotman but there was something that kept drawing us back to Danube Steet and how so very glad we chose this hotel. The house is just so lovely and exquisite. We booked the four poster room which over looked a magical garden. Extremely quiet, cosy, and restful with an air of gentle grandeur. If only one could bottle the atmosphere and take it home. Everything about the room was just perfect and spotlessly clean, from the bedlinen to the bathroom to the tea/coffee tray. with countless thoughtful touches. Breakfast in the stunning but homely dining room was perfect. Do try the Fiona's fresh fruit salad-absolutely delicious. Fiona and Colin were extremely friendly and thoughtful. Their recommendations of local resturants and places to visit were spot on. The house is about 10/15 minutes walk to the city centre but it's a lovely walk passing tempting shops and beautiful houses along the way. Girls-do use the hairspray supplied in the bathroom-it can be windy here! What to do in Edinburgh? Here are some tips:

Visit Edinburgh Castle-an absolute must.
Do not miss the National Gallery and the Portrait Gallery
High tea at the Balmoral is a worthwile experience
Dinner at Fishers in the City and Cafe Maralyne (both 5-10 mins walk away)

There's so much more I can say about this special place. Just go and stay at 7 Danube Street. You shall not be disappointed but please, keep it a secret!

“Felt like family (royal family)”

I can't recommend this B&B highly enough. Fiona and Colin are the warmest of hosts - incredibly funny, warm and, I must say, well-bred people. When Fiona heard my sister and I were headed to Glasgow and then Spain, she pulled out guidebooks and gave us all sorts of recommendations. She even booked a brilliant (and cheap!) tour of the Scottish lowlands for us and got up early to make sure we had breakfast before we left.

Their home is spectacular... a heritage house, I believe, and the neighborhood is ideal - a safe and scenic 10 minute walk from the city center. The rooms are incredibly comfortable and Fiona has filled them with every luxury (books, magazines, Crabtree & Evelyn products, etc.). Finally, the breakfast at 7 Danube is sensational. Everything is homemade, fresh and seasonal, and Fiona will make sure you have anything you want. If you can afford it (approx. 100-125 pounds a night for a double), definitely stay there - it's like staying with the family you wish you had!
