We would recommend the barony house for your stay in Edinburgh. We stayed in a first floor double en-suite which had a lovely large window which opened out to the rear of the house overlooking pretty gardens and roof tops. The rooms’ aspect was sunny in the mornings and shady in the evenings. The room itself had all the amenities you would expect and even two hair dryers! Plenty of storage and a couple of full length mirrors to check your shirt was tucked in! The bed was comfortable with plenty of sheets to keep you warm. There is a phone, TV (standard channels) and wi-fi access is available. There is also tea/coffee making facilities with lots of tea bags/coffee and drinking chocolate, not to mention the sherry!
Alcohol was permitted within the rooms for a glass of wine, with wine glasses provided. Hot food is not permitted but there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. We enjoyed a very good meal at “The New Bell”. There was plenty of useful information to read both in the room and at the entrance.
Breakfast was a treat with a hot buffet which was pre-ordered. There was fresh juice, good croissants and cereals and fruit to start and a ‘full Scottish’ to follow if you wished. The coffee was of the good and strong variety which I personally liked.
The B&B was very well placed to get into the centre of Edinburgh, or to the Stadium if you were going to a game at Murrayfield. It takes 10 minutes on the bus to Princes Street. There are plenty of busses available, an adult day ticket for unlimited travel for the day only costs £3 (02-2011) so is very good value, and regular with busses almost every 10 minutes.
We very much enjoyed our stay and would book again, many thanks to Leo and Susie.
