“Better than a hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Great, friendly atmosphere, central location, friendly staff who answer any questions, able to leave our bags there for free on checkout day whilst we wondered around the city. Amazing communal area with lots of games to keep you entertained, cheap drinks in the bar. Free breakfast (toast and cereal), good sized dorm rooms, clean showers. Definately the cleanest (& nicest) hostel I've ever been in. Due to the friendly open atmosphere and being able to get tips off of other travellers staying there, I'd say it was better than staying in a bargain hotel.

“backpacking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

once again i had a wonderful couple of in edinburgh staying at caledonian backpackers at the west end of princess street. the hosel offers cheap and cheerful accomadation right in the center of edinburgh the cost was £20.00 for 2 nights.

for this you got your bed and a simple breakfast ie cereals, toast, jam, marmite and marmalade. there is free internet access but i did not use the computers but i did use the well stocked bar.

the dorm i stayed in was a 30 bed dorm but if this is not for you you can ask for a smaller dorm but beware this will be more expensive. on the first night the dorm was nearly full with a group of canadians a nice crowd i hope they enjoy their trip around scotland. their next place on their travels is inverness.

on the second night there was just myself and a nice lass from belgium who is over here to her english. wendy had an interview today i hope it went alright

“Really funky place, thought a little messy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

First time in a hostel, I was very concerned about the common areas (bedrooms and bathrooms), however it was ok for few days, friendly staff, nice breakfast options, free Internet, free books, very nice ways to relax and let yourself go, well located, nice view ... It's Edinburgh, after all, a wonderful city to visit.

“Fun atmosphere!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

The staff was very nice and chill. The rooms are carpeted with fluffy mattresses and blankets! There are big lockers to put your valuables in, along with free breakfast from 6am-12pm. The wi-fi is also free, but was kinda slow if you use it in the rooms. They even have a nice bar with cheap drinks and snacks. Overall, decently clean and would definitely come back maybe in the Spring! :)

Room Tip: My friends and I got a 6-bed mixed room and was soo cheap for only 14 pounds a night! I don't th...

“Best hostel I've been to yet!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

I was a little nervous as this was my first time staying in a hostel room solo but the staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival, and the decor was warm and welcoming - if not a little out there! Stayed in a 6 bed female dorm which was surprisingly spacious and nicely decorated, even had a table and two chairs! Bed was the comfiest mattress in the world, even nicer than the one in my student dorm, and although it's located in the centre the traffic noise wasn't all that bad - perfect!

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper you might want to phone the hostel to see if you can get a room higher...
